Piano Practice, Entry III
Just played through the entirety of Bach’s Fugue from his Violin Sonata in G Minor.
Wow.
Of course, I fumbled through the whole thing, but even that could not obscure the beauty of this piece. Every so often, I kept stopping and asking myself, “just how do violinists play this?!” The dissonant quadruple stops are far ahead of their time. Bach seamlessly maintains each voice throughout and this counts as a real sight-reading workout. Maintaining the quaver rests, the slurs, and giving value to each voice requires the utmost concentration.
I will have to print out the score and practice harder.
Target: learn at least the Violin Sonata No. 1 and Violin Partita No. 2 on the piano, bit by bit.
