Height: 5′ 7″

Hair Color/Style: Brown, shoulder length, styled naturally
Aesthetic/Style: Lyra dresses 100% like a muggle, and sometimes even to make wizards uncomfortable. Mostly jeans; moto boots; jean or cargo jackets, leather jackets; band t-shirts; or, sometimes, she dresses incredibly unassumingly. Comfort is most important, not making a statement.
Other: Tattoos: A raven on her right bicep, a skeletal tree along the inside of her left hand (wand hand) done by muggle tattoo artists
Play-By Used: Daisy Ridley
BACKGROUND AND CHARACTER
Lyra is a muggleborn and went to Hogwarts, as all British wizards do. Her story is a bit different, however. Both of her parents were killed during the time of Voldemort and his open persecution of muggles, and Lyra was raised by her grandmother (Margaret) who was a squib. When she was a child, Margaret Morgan’s family sent her away to a convent, essentially abandoning her, and as an adult, she’d assimilated amongst muggles, married a muggle, Lyra’s grandfather, and the two of them had muggle children. Lyra was the first and only witch in the family, her lineage stemming from Margaret. Although Margaret was hesitant to allow Lyra to go to Hogwarts, simply because of Margaret’s own bitterness against her wizard family, it was impossible to keep Lyra away because she started showing signs of magic at an early age.
Otherwise, Lyra lived among muggles, had muggle friends, and was practically muggle herself. Although neither she nor her grandmother ever had straight-out talks about the obvious, ridiculous segregation between muggles and the magically-inclined (the line between them that has always been so heavily enforced and controlled by wizards), the disadvantage and unfairness that Lyra felt growing up was palpable.
No one in their extended family knew about Lyra being magical, and Margaret explained to Lyra that it was because of the strict laws of the Ministry of Magic. Exceptions could be made sometimes, but not for the rest of their family. The risk was too great. They could be arrested. As a result, Lyra lived her life with a secret, a burden, and often times, it was unbearable. The excuse was: Lyra attended boarding school (as a good number of muggles did). Lyra loved Hogwarts - all students do - but she was torn when she’d go back home, and often felt guilty for having the opportunities that she had. Margaret didn’t outright resent her, but Lyra made sure to not use magic in her grandmother’s presence, and especially around their other family.
There were a few accidental instances that were cause for alarm, like levitating teacups and whatnot, which were handled by Margaret and Lyra with tons of excuses and insistent logic. The Ministry was never called, but there were many close calls that eventually had Lyra living on edge all the time. By the time she graduated Hogwarts, it was a relief because she could decide just how much magic to use.
She always had an inner turmoil and questions that were never answered: Why was she born a witch? Why did her grandmother have not an ounce of magical potential? Why did Lyra have to hide who she was? Would it really be that bad if her secret came out? Why did the Ministry always threaten with arrests and Azkaban? Was the Statute of Secrecy not archaic? Witch hunts were over. Was Wizardkind ever going to evolve, move out of the dark ages? They were outnumbered by so many muggles and yet they held so much power. What was there to be afraid of?
After Hogwarts, Lyra traveled around Europe, visited America (where wizards were warier of no-majs even more than they were in the UK), and returned to England, where she worked odd jobs and refused to take a wizarding career. She’d even attended a small muggle college for a short time with forged documents from muggle schools. Through her travels, she met many people, wizards and muggles alike, but she particularly bonded with a few people who shared her mindsets and who were linked to a bigger group of Wizards. This group did not have a name but rumor was that they were funded by an old witch out of France, and wizards from elsewhere.
When magic started occurring, entirely on its own, it was as if it was a sign. Mother Nature, Fate, whatever you want to call - it was as if it was taking matters into its own hands. Lyra was chosen by people up the ladder and tasked with joining the Task Force in order to spy for them, and maybe even convert a few wizards or witches along the way.
She knows that there’s another - Sophia Desmarais, a french Auror - who is on the “same side” so to speak, but Lyra doesn’t know her personally. She simply knows that, going in, Sophia will be her point person. It’s a bit of a relief to know that she’s not alone, but truth be told, Lyra has the sense that some people (who believe that magical exposure is a good thing, too) are more radical than she, are more capable than she, and are far less innocent. Wizards like Voldemort killed her parents after all, and many more people’s parents, and Gillert Grindlewald was a tyrant and tried to build upon a sense of superiority. They were terrible people.
After meeting those friends of hers - and the only reason that they became her friends in the first place was because she knew they were good people, not followers of dark wizards - Lyra didn’t sense any fooling. If they were radicals, there’s no way in hell that she would’ve sided with them. She’s not like that. Their beliefs are based on logic and reason. Not prejudice and hatred. Or so that’s what she’s been around, what she’s been told and shown.
Even if she has doubts now, it’s too late to back out. The only thing that Lyra has is her morals, her own beliefs, and she will stick by them.

Name: Antonius “Tony” Michael Dryden
Date of Birth:
Place of Birth: Ipswitch, Suffolk, England
Actual Age/Age of appearance: 23
Marital Status: Single
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Pronouns: he/him
Religion: None
Health details: Healthy as any strapping young man his age
Occupation: Ex-quidditch player, Task Force Member
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION (OR WRITE A COUPLE PARAGRAPHS)
Height: 5′10″
Eye Color: Green-blue
Hair Color/Style: Short, spikey up top with the use of gel
Aesthetic/Style: Tony likes to think that he has a good sense of style; he definitely wears more sportswear, or clothes like t-shirts, comfortable jeans, not too tight, and trainers (or Converse)
Other: Pinup of a girl on a broom on his left bicep
Play-By Used: Taron Edgerton
BACKGROUND AND CHARACTER
Personality: Tony is truly a good guy. He’s honest, loyal, fun-loving, and doesn’t have a bad bone in his body. If he hurts someone, then whatever he’s done happened because he was being oblivious or daft. He won’t intentionally hurt anyone.
At school, he had loads of friends. He might’ve very well been a Gryffindor stereotype apart from the characteristic of needing to one-up someone. That wasn’t Tony. He didn’t need to be the best, he just wanted to be good. Playing quidditch professionally was always his dream. When he was smaller, when his father was alive, he wanted to be an Auror, but not since. He never thought about as to why, but maybe it was because Tony knew if he did make that risk, became an Auror, then there was a possibility that he’d die too, and then his mother would be left all alone.
Because Tony is honest, he gets pissed off, even angry, when someone accuses him of lying. If you don’t want to believe him, then fine. If you punish him for something that he didn’t do, then fuck you. Which is why he is furious to this day at how his quidditch dream just died when he had never taken those illegal potions. He has a trusting quality that led to his career’s downfall. He befriended fellow players too closely, he didn’t keep it professional, he kept too many of their secrets. Then they betrayed him one way or another, and that’s how he got caught up in it.
Otherwise, if you don’t screw him over, Tony will be one of the most loyal friends you have, someone who has your back, someone who will make sure you don't feel alone. He’s the best drinking buddy - the best buddy to have fun with really. And he’ll never lie to you.
History: Tony’s dad was an Auror who died during Voldemort’s reign in the 90s, so the fact that it was just he and his mother since he was a kid, truly shaped the kind of man that Tony grew up to be. He was always sensitive as to how women should be treated. He always treated his mother with kindness and respect. If he had a little sister, then he would’ve been an amazing big brother. While not academically superb, Tony was a decent student. Since his mother was muggleborn, they lived among muggles and Tony was immersed in that world.
He was a beater on the Gryffindor team and soon after graduating was accepted onto the Montrose Magpies, the most successful team in the British and Irish League. Unfortunately, after a couple of years, several players, including him, were involved in an illegal potions scandal, and this went on for months with trials, verdicts, and stamps in records. Not only was Tony kicked out, but the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot declared:
“The ban will last a total of six years, during which [he] cannot be recruited by any other national team. During that time, [he is] also banned from having any contact with the national teams. No practice, no sponsorship events. [He is] hereby effectively and completely removed from the National setting. After the six years, should [he] wish to seek reinstatement, [he] may contact the Wizengamot and petition the ability to once again play on the national stage.”
Of course, who would take him at that point? Too much time would pass by then, he’d be out of practice and older. His image would still be sullied. Tony realized that he needed to find another career if he wanted to support his mother. She was all he had. So after about eight months of putzing around, Tony decided to join the Task Force. They promised compensation, not to mention they’d train him, provide him with room and board, and maybe he’d be on the road to becoming an Auror after all.
Connections:
Emma Misabun: He went to school with her. He knows of her, but he doesn’t know her. Holy Merlin’s Beard - she’s on the Ministry. He had no idea. She certainly grew up.
Alysia Harrow: Best mate. He has some from his school days, but they’ve got boring jobs now and some have kids, and Tony’s still Tony, but Alysia is loyal and fun, and he knows that she genuinely cares about him, and it’s the same with him. It helps that she knows who he is now, best. And, after all, they’ve been kicked out of the Magpies together, and since it both affects their lives, they ‘get’ that they’re both trying to figure out what to do with their lives.
Future plot ideas: People from his quidditch past, those who screwed him over. People who knew his father.

Occupation: Ex-quidditch player (Beater for the Chudley Cannons); Hogwarts’ Flying/quidditch coach.
Description: Alex is a tall, broad-shouldered Scotsman, standing at almost 6′5″. He has a lingering pain in his shoulder from an old injury from quidditch. He used to play for the Chudley Cannons as a beater until he suffered a huge injury. Afterward, he was unable to play and had to leave the team. He moved back to Scotland - Hogsmeade, actually - where he worked for his Auntie Rosmerta at her bar. Luckily, he ended up putting his quidditch skills to good use when he was hired to replace Madame Hooch as the Quidditch/flying coach at Hogwarts. That’s where he met Babs Mimzy. After a year of seeing each other, he proposed, and they’ve been engaged for a couple months.
Alex dresses in simple clothes, lots of plaid. He’s much more simple a man than Nikolai Orlov. Alex is not dumb. He’s just less analytical and easier going. What you see with him is what you get. He has good morals, a kind Scottish heart, and tries his hardest at everything he does.

Play-By Used: Marion Cotillard
BACKGROUND AND CHARACTER
Personality: Sophia grew up spoiled and yet also needy. She had everything she wanted but the proper attention of her parents, who were busy with their family business. By the time they showed her any attention, it was always half-hearted or lacking in patience. Most people need patience with her. Or rather, Sophia needed to learn it - a nanny could only do so much.
The countless times that Sophia would find herself upset, it was her nanny there to console her, and more often than not, it wasn’t enough, and little Sophia grew bitter inside. She was never a good manager of her own emotions. Anger or hurt would always be accompanied by tears, and to this day, Sophia finds it hard to suppress a tear or two when emotional. Her feelings were always like waves crashing on a shore. Sometimes, the water was calm, and other times, the air would electrify, the wind would pick up, and there’s a storm on the horizon. The waves would hit the bank, threatening to tear right through earth.
Sophia was once diagnosed as bipolar but fuck you, if you made her see a therapist. She manages her mental state with potions that she has a healer prescribe her, and that’s the end of it. She won’t talk about it. Just talking never helps. She either has to quell it, become numb, or she has to rip someone’s head off. When she was young, she’d tear someone up verbally until she was blue in the face, and she was capable of saying the most terrible things without apologizing afterward. She might have more control now (she works for the French Ministry after all; she knows what’s at stake) but she still has a habit of not apologizing. Ever. She might feel guilty, but she’ll never utter those two words (I’m sorry.) She’s too proud. It’s a weakness to her.
And most of the time, she won’t feel like she needs to apologize. She’ll always justify in her head as to why. When she was a kid, it was because her parents didn’t love her; in school, it was because they were jealous of her; as an adult, it’s because she doesn’t think she should feel sorry for anything, really. If she kills someone, okay perhaps. Perhaps then she went too far. But on the job, she’s just doing what she needs to do, and she likes to catch those wizards who are breaking the law. She enjoys locking them up.
The times she does take it too far are times that those near her have to forget. One look, one deadpan expression, and they better not mention it to anyone, or so help her. She must’ve skipped a dose. Or she needs to raise it. That’s what it is. The dose could be wearing off. She’s been able to handle it this long.
There are positive qualities to Sophia. She’s able to focus her emotion and instability into art - she’s always done it in her spare time. She paints a variety of things and likes spelling the paint into moving along with what she’s feeling at that particular time. When she’s really into something, she can have a conversation about it until the morning.
She likes to travel and take in new things. She appreciates when something moves her emotionally - not fights or anything having to do with negativity. But things like plays, or music, or stories. On her best days, she can be a good friend. A passionate friend, who believes she knows what’s best, someone who can even mother you a bit - the way her mother didn’t mother her.
She can forgive most of the time, but she’ll never forget. Her smile will look real, and she’ll happily go to lunch with old friends, but she’ll do things, tiny things, that she knows will prick a person. She’ll say something blunt, then lightly, “I’m sorry, chere, you know what I mean,” and go on as if nothing is the matter. She’ll order too many sweets while knowing it’s someone’s weakness. She’ll fix someone’s shirt, like someone’s mother will do, if even if they find it annoying. She’ll promise to owl another person, so that they could hang out again, but she’ll end up not doing so.
The only way to get her respect is by not reacting to her barbs, to shrug them off, and to truly appear unphased. Also, it helps if she’s envious of a person, whether it’s someone’s skill or talent.
History: Sophia was born to an upper-middle-class French wizarding family that never had to struggle. That didn’t mean that there weren’t any inner struggles though. Beneath the facade of order and properness, a constant mask that had to always be in place, the family was lacking in emotional connection and all of those traits that made a family truly a family. Sophia grew up with a nanny that she had all throughout school. Her parents were always busy with the family furrier business. It also didn’t help that she was in the middle of four children and often overlooked. Her mother had too much to deal with and Sophia could tell that she could not wait until September would come and all of her kids would go back to school. So like many kids, school is all that she had. Beauxbatons was her home.
Only comparable to the Palace of Versailles, the school was magical, beautiful, ethereal, and almost like a dream half the time. When Sophia first saw Hogwarts, she thought it was hideous and could not understand how its students could learn there. Beauxbatons made anyone feel like royalty, while Hogwarts was gothic and dark. It was a castle out of a novel with dragons in it. Sophia’s first year of school was the year of the Tri-Wizard Tournament, and her schooling began with an eye-opening experience. It was a good thing for her, for she was a needy, attention-seeking girl who didn’t get much socialization aside from being around siblings. The entirety of Beauxbatons hadn’t gone to Hogwarts, but due to connections, her parents finagled Sophia and her two older brothers on the list. Their youngest sister wouldn’t start school just yet. So it was the three of them who crossed the channel in the massive flying horse-drawn carriage.
Sophia met Eve Maitland during her Hogwarts stay. Being the brat that Sophia was, she hated the bright-eyed raven-haired girl - at first. Sophia was there to represent Beauxbatons. They were there to compete. As the older French students carried themselves with a better-than-thou air, so did Sophia. Her brother, Leon, who was dropping his name into the goblet of fire, though that his sister putting on an act (an amateur one at that, for she was only 11) was laughable. It helped knock Sophia down a few notches, to be scolded by her brother, who was a sixth year. She would thus begin to understand, with trouble, that the world wouldn't be awed by her easily, and that she’d have to prove herself to it.
While attending class with other Hogwarts’ first years, she slowly became friends with Eve when both realized that there was no one better than them. All of them were essentially green as they came, with much to learn, and perhaps it was better to do it together, to gain skills and a repertoire. Despite the turbulent year, the two girls parted with tears on their faces, and promised to owl each other. Since owling was all that they had, they have probably sent hundreds upon hundreds to each other. As they became closer throughout their respective schooling, the owls that Sophia sent adopted a consistent theme, and that was her begging to see Eve, for her to visit France, so they could spend more time together.
During the dark times in the UK and Hogwarts, it was harder for Sophia to see Eve. Her parents wouldn’t allow any trips across the channel, for Sophia’s own protection, and so with gritted teeth and a whole lot of impatience, Sophia couldn’t wait to finish school so that she and Eve could get away from it all. For a good while, it was fantastic, the both of them. Eve could tolerate Sophia’s intense emotion. They would enjoy the smart arguments that they’d have. Eve would be able to keep up with her. Neither expected it all to end the way it had, over something that probably could’ve been solved in a more reasonable, adult manner, but Sophia just couldn’t let things go, took things too personally, and once the hot, angry tears started, the bitterness flooded in. Owling and visiting each other during summer breaks, and not regularly, while envisioning a life together, was very different from reality.
They went their separate ways, were on and off only a few, short times, because things wouldn’t last no matter how much Sophia told Eve she wanted them to. Eve joined the British Ministry, Sophia joined the French. Even at a distance, Sophia tried to better her ex-friend and ex-lover. She’d even spite her at a distance and wouldn’t say a word until whatever news would reach Eve of their own accord and not from Sophia directly. Once, Sophia flaunted a new woman, someone from the Delacour family. Another time, it was some famous American. It didn’t last, but that wasn’t the point. And recently, Sophia was promoted within the French Auror division, and there’s no way in hell (logically) that she could’ve gotten the position when there were other Aurors who have been there twice as long as her; but of course, it didn’t matter. Because she has the position, and her own connections to boost her rank.
Joining those Aurors who oversee the task force was just as much of a political choice as it was something new for her career. But not only that - Sophia has been a part of a group for years now, a group of wizards and witches who have a very different opinion than most others in these modern times. The world is changing. Wizards have become significantly more tolerant of muggles, mixed blood, and generally less prejudice. Sophia is not of that mentality. It has nothing to do with being French, or being a part of a mostly pureblood family. This has nothing to do with blood. It has everything with being of magic.
Sophia is one of the members of this group who works within the French Ministry. There are others within other Ministries. She’s the perfect asset to have, and she knows this very well.
CONNECTIONS
Eve Maitland: Ex-everything. A person whom she once loved so deeply, clung to so fiercely that it’s impossible to think of the past without thinking of this woman, or this woman without thinking about her entire past, because Sophia’s childhood and school memories are intertwined with Eve. Things are too ruined and far gone to fix things with her. Now, they’re old friends, rivals, and the only two who know each other best.
Future plot ideas: Sophia is a part of a group of other wizards who are of the mentality of Grindelwald (not so much Voldemort). She belives that exposure could be a good thing and could start a new era where wizards make themselves known and strive to great things - like ruling over muggles.

BACKGROUND AND CHARACTER
Personality: Nick is shrewd, brooding oftentimes, yet loyal and generally willing to absolve those that aggravate him, unless they have grievously crossed him. He is particularly loyal to those closest to him, including co-workers, other Aurors, like Eve Maitland, whom he’d gone to school with. He will do anything for them. However, to achieve such a level of respect from him is difficult.
He has high standards and a strict work ethic. He tolerates those he must tolerate, bureaucrats at the Ministry, for example. He does have an ego and it will often time come out when he’s dealing with junior Aurors or anyone below his rank. An individual must prove themselves to him. Some people, however, impress him without trying. It doesn't happen often, but it happens.
Being a restrained and methodical individual, he is mostly in control of his emotions. He rarely loses his temper in an outright explosion, but he can show great potential for violence when pushed. He expertly harnesses this while on the job and is a leader, which is why he holds rank as a captain.
He is a very honest man, is known to be blunt, and is generally not sentimental on a surface level; although when the happiness and well-being of someone he cares about is at stake, he will show his concern and care through actions and can most definitely put their needs above his own. At present, there is no one he loves more than his mother, his sister, and his son.
Nick is a good father. He’s such a good father that he ended up divorcing his wife for pouring all of his affection into their son, Thomas. He feels guilty for separating because of how it affects Thomas, but Gloriana was the one that initiated the divorce. She no longer wanted to be with Nick. In her mind, he didn’t give her the attention she deserved, he didn’t understand her, and although she never admitted it, she didn’t understand him.
If an individual is within Nick’s circle, he will return loyalty and respect wholeheartedly. He might not be one who is open and expressive, but it is characteristic of someone who has gone through what he has. He values everything he has. He takes nothing for granted. During moments of happiness and enjoyment, he’ll let his dark, dry sense of humor slip. People have seen him smile, really.
Regarding romance and partners, Nick is also restrained, perhaps even a bit reserved. He doesn’t lament over divorcing his ex-wife, has become jaded, and he has not entertained the idea of another marriage.
History: Nick was born in Moscow, Russia, but at an early age, he and his parents moved to London, England, where his father started working at Saint Mungos as a healer. Up until attending Hogwarts, Nick had a fairly uneventful life. They were immigrants, and there was always something to prove for his parents. It’s the same whether you’re a muggle or a wizard in a different country. Alexander Orlov worked nights, was always on call, striving to prove himself as a young healer. Valeria, his wife, took care of Nick meanwhile. They never visited Moscow when he was a child. He hadn’t known why then, but his parents were avoiding going back. Something about their extended family that they left behind.
The secret death eater ties on his father’s side didn’t start to unravel until Lord Voldemort made his presence known during Nick’s first year in 1994, which was the year of the Quidditch World cup and the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Nick’s mother, Valeria, suggested taking her son out of Hogwarts. He’d only been in school for a year. It was all right, she had argued with her husband. He could’ve started elsewhere without interrupting his education too much. Beauxbatons, perhaps? Or better yet, they could’ve taken a risk and moved to the United States, and Nick could’ve gone to Ilvermorny.
But at that point, no school was really safer than Hogwarts, Nick’s father was confident in the legendary Albus Dumbledore, and he couldn’t just up and leave his job, start his career anew in America. Valeria lived in a constant state of paranoia because of their decision to stay, and the death eaters in their own family. He suspected the dark ties in their extended family, but he never got answers, not until later.
So instead, Nick’s parents advised him to stay as far away from Harry Potter as he could, study well, and most importantly, to be careful. Nick never spoke to the famous orphan, and it helped that he was in Slytherin. Slytherins stayed away from Gryffindors, after all. However, try as he might, it was impossible to ignore the whisperings about dark magic, prejudice, and the coming change for the betterment of purebloods everywhere. Nick had kept his mouth shut about not being one himself.
Within the cunning house, the older kids boasted about their own families’ death eater connections. Most were outright lying. Their parents were just blood-elitist. A few Slytherins, like Draco Malfoy, was legitimately in line to become a Voldemort follower himself. Most of the younger years, including Nick, stayed away from such talk, afraid or uncomfortable. Some were intrigued and often snuck into late night conversations while someone in Potter’s year professed their hatred and whispered the name Voldemort with sneaky little smiles. The kids were more often than not caught by the older students and punished. Nick was smart and didn’t stick around to get his ass beat by an older year. He socialized with his own year and those younger.
Eve Maitland, a Slytherin in his year, was in his small group of friends. They kept to the fringes of the house. They were there at Hogwarts to learn, not to meddle with house rivalries, or worse, do anything that could endanger their lives. 1997 was the most difficult year that Nick and his friends had to go through. That was his fourth year and the year of the Battle of Hogwarts.
When things rapidly changed at the school, Snape becoming headmaster and death eaters taking teaching positions, Valeria wanted her son out of there. Out of there immediately. His parents were smart enough to realize that the Ministry was corrupted and that dark things were happening at Hogwarts. Finally, Alexander had agreed, but it wasn’t possible to arrange Nick’s departure when the school was essentially in the control of Voldemort. Nick ended up staying for the full year. During that year, he finally learned that his uncle, his father’s brother, was a follower of the Dark Lord, and this was perhaps what spared Nick the many punishments that were dolled out by the new teachers.
Mikhail Orlov visited his brother in London while Nick was away and asked him to join the cause. A healer is needed in all situations. Upon Alexander’s refusal, Mikhail threatened to take Nick over to the Dark Lord’s side, by force if need be - reports from the school mentioned that Nick had much potential, a fourteen-year-old boy could be molded, after all. Alexander engaged his brother in a duel, a duel that took his life. Valeria was spared because she managed to get away with Nick’s sister Vera, who was only a toddler then. When their son heard of his father’s death, it was days later. Unable to do anything, Nick only had the support of his friends and Eve while they waited out the year.
During the Battle itself, they were evacuated with the rest of the younger years while the older students who wanted to fight stayed. Nick wanted to stay, too, he wanted to kill the uncle he’d never met, but of course, there was no way in hell he was allowed to. Instead, finally he reunited with his mother and baby sister. When it was all over, after Voldemort was defeated, all they could do was continue living for the sake of each other. Fortunately, Mikhail Orlov was caught, along with other death eaters who remained alive, and was sentenced to Azkaban for life.
Nick resumed school. The relief of Harry Potter and his friends finally being gone was palpable. He and his friends finally settled in their places comfortably as they should’ve been allowed to all along. The atmosphere within Slytherin lightened significantly. While the other houses avoided them most of the time nonetheless, rumors died hard, all that mattered was that the students of the house, those who simply wanted to learn and graduate could do so with peace without the threat of darkness over their heads. When he graduated in 2000, Nick became an Auror in order to channel his need for justice. Eve Maitland also joined the Ministry. Later in his career, she became his partner in the Auror department. It was almost like they were back in school again.
During a Ministry party seven years ago, Nick met Babs Mimzy, who wasn’t yet a Hogwarts professor. Despite his standoffish nature, the two hit it off and two years later, they got married. Shortly after, Babs became pregnant and they had a son named Thomas. As soon as he learned to talk, it was clear that he would become a precocious, solitary boy, just like his father. The birth of his son changed Nick for the better, surprisingly. Becoming a father was a good thing for him. He became less of a cold asshole. He smiled more. He laughed more genuinely. His overall physiognomy became less dark. But Nick started to spend more time with his son and less with his wife.
He and Babs divorced when Thomas was three, just two years ago. Nick and his wife were just too different. Babs needed more out of him, more emotion, more attention, just more understanding. It was all good that he doted on their son, but he couldn’t just leave his wife out. In the end, perhaps they were just too different. Their paths were also different. After their divorce, Babs got hired at Hogwarts as their new charms professor and moved away. Distance made it hard on Nick - just knowing that his son is in another country - but he does visit as often as he can.
Presently, Nick doesn’t regret their divorce - there was no way that he and Babs could make it work - but he's aware of how difficult Thomas’ life will continue to be with their parents separated. Also, Babs has a new man as of late - Alex Fraser. They’ve been engaged for a couple months too now. The guy's a ex-quidditch player (with a scandal that had him off the team) and isn’t too smart, in Nick’s opinion. At least he’s nice to Thomas, but Nick swears that he doesn’t have any brains. He doesn’t stimulate Thomas enough. He just buys him things, like that children’s quidditch set on Christmas. Thomas was too scared to try the kid’s broomstick. Nick tries to suppress his irritation for the sake of his son. He’s all that Nick has - besides his job.
When he was offered the opportunity to be involved in the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, Nick hesitated in taking the offer only because doing so would take him away from Thomas - visiting is hard enough. Even Eve couldn’t convince Nick to take a new position. But the little boy, far smarter than most kids his age, told him to go. So with his son’s blessing, Nick is one of the senior Aurors overseeing the task force.
Connections:
Eve Maitland: Probably his one and only best friend, although Nick doesn’t use the word best friend, he’s not a teenager. She’s been through many things with him together, whether or not they affected her own life. He might not share her self-interest in recognition at the Ministry, or agree with some of her dubious, less-than-legal skills and talents, but she’s been there for him too many times to count - like after his father’s death, his divorce - and her friendship and loyalty mean more than anything. Equally, he’d do anything for her.
Valeria Orlov: His mother, whom he visits but probably not often enough. She’s a reserved, graceful woman in her late fifties who lives for her children and grandson. Otherwise, she works with sick children at Saint Mungos and attends various clubs and activities in her spare time with other witches her own age.
Vera Orlov: Nick’s younger sister with whom he’s not too close with. They have a 12 year age gap between them. He was attending school, then went off to work for the ministry right after. They’ve tried to connect, but they’re just so different. Vera isn’t too aware of the dark times of Harry Potter and Voldemort. She was also born in England. She’s of a different generation. She’s more open, expressive, and has gone toward an art career. She’s lucked out, exhibiting in several cities across Europe for her dancing colors collection.
Babs Mimzy: She once attracted him with her wit, her intelligence, and impressed him by the fact that she wasn’t trying to impress anyone, she never did. Nick was able to open up to her enough that she fell in love with him and vise versa. But they reached a stalemate in their relationship. After five years, it turned out that he couldn’t give her what she wanted, and they couldn’t find a solution to make their relationship work. They divorced.
Future plot ideas: Purist ties to his family in Russia. His sister, with whom he doesn’t have a relationship with. Drama with ex-wife and her new fiance.
