okay but you know how humans will "threaten" (smile, growl) and even "attack" (smack on the back of the head, high five, playful punches) each other without actually wanting to hurt each other, and aliens are always so confused by it? imagine how confused they'd be when they realize It's Not Just Humans. like, my cat growls at me 24/7, but then he'll be happy and start purring again, and never attack me. my dog will bark and snarl at my mom when they play, even though she Adores my mom.

That would definitely confuse aliens if they weren’t already used to it! Perhaps it’s just one of those things that’s less a ‘human’ thing and more of an ‘Earth’ thing? Either way, play fighting, as I think it’s called, would probably be very startling for aliens, especially if it was directed at them!
