“Aubrey, you have a bruise on your face.”

In seconds, she’s gone to the fridge and pulled out an ice pack, ran back over and placed it against the other girl’s cheek. “Did you get in a fight with someone? Maybe Kim or Michael?...Or your mom?”

while sunny's crush on aubrey began when they were kids, it was fairly minor at first. however, her shift towards a more rough, punk-like demeanor as a teen only managed to intensify these feelings of his tenfold, as unfortunate as it is that sunny was also technically responsible for said shift.

one of sunny's various sketchbooks includes several drawings of aubrey ranging from more cutesy depictions to very meticulously-detailed portrayals reflecting his INFATUATION over her, complete with little hearts drawn around them as well. she has never seen any of them, and he hopes she never will.

between the two of them, kel, hero and basil, sunny is probably the one who's the most aware of the struggle regarding aubrey's current living situation. thanks to his mother being absent from the house more often than not, he's offered aubrey on several occasions a place to spend the night when she needs somewhere to escape to.

out of everyone in his life, aubrey is the person sunny cares about the most. if there was anyone who would have the power to help him overcome the various emotional and mental problems he currently SUFFERS from, it would be her; and likewise, if anything serious ever happened to aubrey, he would be thoroughly devastated as a result.

omori is the polar opposite of aubrey in terms of romance. whereas aubrey believes in true love and the idea of every individual in headspace having their special someone, omori conversely believes that love - both platonic and romantic - only weakens those affected by it and that everyone would be better off alone. as a result, he outright spurns most (if not all) of her flirtatious behavior and / or advances towards him, if only because of his notion that romantic thoughts of any kind have proven themselves to be exclusively detrimental to sunny, thusly going against omori's intrinsic purpose.

while she isn't necessarily the friend he tolerates the most in their group, omori does consider aubrey to be the most capable of DESTRUCTION out of everyone. ergo, in the case of a female inhabitant of headspace displaying any sort of romantic interest in him, omori will very rarely pretend to reciprocate said interest in front of aubrey if only to spur on her more violent tendencies via jealousy.

aubrey's relationship with mari - both in the dream world and the real one - disgusts omori to his core. his contempt towards mari extends to how much aubrey idolizes her, and he will take any and every opportunity to remind her of just how flawed of a person - and a sister - mari truly is in his eyes.

there is a part of omori that expresses deep-seated resentment towards aubrey for how much sunny mentally OBSESSES over her nowadays. something similar happened regarding sunny's attachment to abbi, but in that situation, abbi - as a fictional construct of sunny's mind - was at least able to reciprocate that attachment, whereas aubrey does no such thing to a comparable extent.

he lets out a quiet but rather strangled wheeze, only rolling onto his side after a good few seconds. his next movement is to immediately feel around for his weapon. he snatches it up, not minding that he was holding it by the jelly-covered blade at first; omori quickly swaps his grip to the handle. all physical pain is dull for him, but even so, it is still present. and although he cannot die, a solid critical hit is always unpleasant. therefore, he still has the right to be a little hissy about it, and unfiltered venom abruptly spills out of him when he complies with aubrey's request.

“ i would quite enjoy gutting the jar via puncturing the glass and watching the so-proclaimed healing gel spill out of it as if it were blood. the benefits would include death for it and supplies for the party, in addition to the satisfying feeling of victory. ”

a clear day, as per usual--weather does not tend to vary in headspace, making it prime for adventuring at any time. omori has such an idea; an adventure during the adventure. adventure inception. the boy stays in place momentarily, observing the group. everyone else is distracted in one way or another. omori takes a few steps forward, walking over to aubrey. he lingers within vision, staring at her with blank yet expectant eyes. he glances towards a few trees that are off-path of this forest, then makes his way closer to them; omori then pauses, turning back to see if she's following him.

everything is different, and everyone is different. It’s a fact that Sunny is still having trouble digesting, even more so when he comes to Faraway and stays at Kel’s home; of course, a nostalgia-attuned mind spots every similarity possible. He is comforted by those similarities, but dwelling on them only would cause more of a rift in his mind then there already is... and it doesn’t help his anxieties that Aubrey is probably the person he’s interacted with the least since he left his house. 

He wants to try and be her friend again, and that means learning about what he’s missed. Kel’s mother had invited Aubrey for dinner, and it seemed she’d accepted. A bit after the meal, Sunny finds Aubrey lingering on the porch, so he capitalizes on the opportunity that presents itself. The boy hovers quietly nearby like a one-eyed ghost, mind slowly calculating what words to speak.

“ ...hi. ” Sunny greets in that whisper-tone of his; he’s so bland and bad at starting conversation, but he knows he needs to try. “ how... how have you been? recently. ”

❝ happy birthday, mari. ❞ her words are stilted, awkward, as if she doesn't know what she's about to say before she says it. ❝ i, uh... i didn't really know what to get you for your birthday. i don't really... have a lot of money right now. ❞ she quickly realized how bad that sounded, and backpedaled so mari wouldn't worry about her. ❝ b-but i have some! so if you wanted to hang out... i dunno, we could find something you want and i could get it for you, or... something. god, i'm bad at this... ❞

While letting Aubrey speak, her head quirks to the side a bit and she chuckles softly, unsure why dear Aubrey would even bother with clarifying she doesn't have money, much less try to hide it again after the fact.

"Aubrey, there's nothing I want from you besides your wonderful self...though if you really insist on a present, I'd take a hug!" Mari knows that this will not quell Aubrey's desire to give for the entire day, but imposing a hug on the brooding teenager may cut the topic short for now - Aubrey may love hugs, but she doesn't want anyone to know she loves hugs, and likely wouldn't chance being asked for even more mushy affection immediately.

Of course, Mari has her own present for Aubrey's next birthday in mind already. Not 100% set, she's going to test the waters a bit more, but...she is just barely old enough to adopt, as of today.

And she's often thought that the reason she was born in Faraway was because Aubrey needed a real mama.

       sweetheart had been preoccupied with making sure her makeup was flawless. so preoccupied that she didn’t realize a group had entered her dignified makeup room until one of them had said something. she would have been angry, furious even -- if she hadn’t just finished the last of her makeup. she was fully prepared to be fawned over by all of her adoring fans.  ❝   oh?  fans  of  sweetheart?  coming  to  see  her  in  all  her  glory?  ❞

       sweetheart turns around in her oversized, heart shaped, neatly decorated makeup chair, smiling confidently. that smile radiated a smug sort of superiority, one that made it fairly obvious she thought was the best person in the world. she brings out her fan, covering half of her face with it as she fans herself a bit. it’s mostly for appearances, but it was also to make sure that all her makeup was nice and dry! after all, if anything got smudged, someone was going to have to face her ire for it. and she didn’t want to deal with that right now -- she had fans to tend to! stupid, adoring, empty-headed fans!

he’s weaseled his way out of many an interaction, many a situation he doesn’t want to be in, but recently it seems he’s been trapped in a cage by everyone and everything around him. he’s been forced to confront every bit of sourness head-on recently, and at this point he humorously thought he could write a book in his head: How To Kill a Non-Confrontational Person.

as much as he’d die before admitting it fully, he only has himself to blame. maybe he could simply blame fate — after all, he wasn’t the one seeking any of this out. but perhaps that wasn’t a good thing, after the hell that everyone’s trudged through.

sunny stands there, in his distinct lack of any glorification; if anything, he still looks like a walking corpse, even if the cause is lack of sleep rather than abundance. not to mention that to the trained eye, every single muscle in his body is tense. his flight instincts simply seem to spring up around aubrey, no matter how horrible he feels about that being the case.

“ i’m sorry. ” as if that would fix anything at all.
