I thought of this in my head and I couldn’t forget it
I wanted to elaborate just a little on that “Vulpes is indebted to the Courier and they’re not letting him pay them back because watching him get frustrated is kinda funny” idea I had earlier.
How Vulpes wound up in this situation is irrelevant. Whether his life was saved, or the debt is in a more literal, monetary sense, it doesn’t matter. Vulpes owes somebody, and the best way to get out of this position is to pay them back as soon as possible.
What does a person like them even want, anyway? Caps? Medical supplies? Anyone would be happy enough with a fistful of either. If they were after chems or drinks, it’d be easy enough to give them a bundle of each. What about ammunition? Armor? Weapons? Anything at all?
Not interested.
And it’s not that big of a deal at first, even if it is a little odd. A certain flavor of people don’t take handouts so easily, and while Vulpes can understand this, he insists that what he has to offer isn’t being given out as an act of charity. They helped him, so he’s returning the favor. It couldn’t be more simple.
Again, they don’t want anything from him. The offer is nice, and they appreciate it, but it isn’t necessary.
I’d like to imagine Vulpes getting increasingly more frustrated trying to find a way to pay off this ‘debt’ he insists he has; gritting his teeth while the Courier oh-so politely turns him down, getting red in the face at all the ridiculous excuses they come up with, and even going so far as to stalk them in an attempt to find out what they can’t possibly say no to... only to come up empty-handed and embarrassed after getting caught.
I laughed until I choked last night while making this
