oooh! i thought i had lost this audio when i lost my phone on a drunken ramble in weho when my favorite LA-hater came to visit. but here it is, hiding in my drafts. aaaanyways, i just had to share. this is james blake about blowing my mind at his show last october. it was my first concert at hollywood forever, which (1) is a cemetary and (2) allows picnics, so it was unique. the roomie and i stayed up till all hours making the fixins- fried chicken and mac n cheese. warpaint opened while we chowed down and j blake came on like clockwork. it got a little chilly that night (LA chilly- party cup, scarf and hoodie kept me perfectly warm) and i forgot how his sets take a little bit to get going. i also forgot how long shows are when you're not at a festival. suffice it to say, 45 minutes in, he really hit his stride. he did an unbelievable 'limit to your love,' which he flew over at both coachella sets. anyway, for the encore (he was like, 'conveniently, i happen to have one more song prepared), he got everyone-and it looked like there were 2000+ people there- to be completely silent while he did 'measurements.' my recording app cut it off, but it gives me chills even without the ending when a ghettobird circled (and the point at which people just couldn't stop themselves from woo'ing).
