What had started as a way to piss off Alice Cooper turned into a real romance.
Veronica had told her best friend to knock on her mother worst nightmare’s door and bring him to the Cooper’s 4th of July celebration. The look on Alice’s face when she saw the gang logo on the back to Jughead Jones’s jacket told Betty she hit the right spot. She tried to hide her discontent but everyone could see the grimace every time her eyes landed on him.
They spent the whole summer shoving their love in Alice’s face and at some point they developed real feelings and that’s when problems started to arrive.
Being the leader of the Southside Serpents was a full time job and Jughead had to give up his personal life in order to fulfil his duty and honor his late father as Serpent King. That meant no dating. For years, this rule hadn’t caused any problems. No one had caught Jughead’s eye - beside for flings - and his days were too busy to have a significant other in his life.
Until Betty Cooper walked into his bar and demanded to talk to him.
That’s when things changed. If it were anyone else, Jughead wouldn’t have accepted the offer. While two hundred bucks to piss off a controlling conservative mother sounded interesting, it wasn’t the kind of jobs he did. But, that blonde girl in a paster tank top was hot and he liked to piss off people by being himself.
So he accepted her offer.
Weeks passed and soon, Jughead started bringing Betty to the Wyrm more and more which pissed off some Serpent’s. A Northsider in their Serpent bar? Hell fucking no.
“I don’t think your friends are a fan of me,” Betty said as they left the Wyrm on Saturday night. All night, Serpents have been narrowing their eyes at her and showing disapproval. Even a blind person would’ve gotten their message. “Correction, the hates me.” Jughead opened his mouth to say something but Betty beat him. “And, don’t say they’re protective of their bar and will warm up to me because we both know they won’t.”
Jughead shrugged. “So what, Betty? You can’t appreciate everyone and not everyone will appreciate you. It’s life.”
He had a point.
“I don’t want to strain the relationship between you and the Serpents.”
“They can think whatever they want, it’s my bar. I bring whoever I want. If they’re not happy with it, they can get the fuck out.” Betty narrowed her eyes at him. “I never let anyone dictate how I should live my life, I’m not gonna start letting the Serpents pick who I should be dating. My love life is none of their fucking business.”
“But they’re your family-”
“So what? You are too!”
Betty stiffened, a bit startled by Jughead’s loud voice.
Jughead closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose. He didn’t meant to yell at her.
He sat on his bike and pulled Betty between his legs, hands on her waist. “I’ve never introduced a girl to my father. Ever. I’m not saying he never caught one in my bed…” he trailed, remembering the embarrassing moments. “I’ve never been attracted enough to someone to bring them home and call them my girlfriend in front of my father. He must’ve been thinking I was an idiot for never calling those hot girls back.”
Betty looked down, getting uncomfortable.
“See, you could have anyone yet, you chose the a girl all of your fellow gang members despise.”
Jughead grabbed her hands and brought them to his lips, kissing her knuckles. “I don’t care how many girls has been in my bed, Betty; nobody compares to you. I don’t care about Katrina or Claudia or Jess. They mean nothing to me. I’m in love with you, not them.”
The Northsider judged him. Should she give him the benefice of the doubt? It’s not like Jughead had the habit to lie to her.
“All this to say that out of all of these girls, you’re the first and only I would’ve chosen to introduce to my father. You see, Betty, my father despised the Northside. He wanted all of its citizens to fucking die during the riots four years ago. He backed Fangs and Sweet Pea when they had the ‘brilliant’ idea to blow up a building with a pipe bomb.”
“He would’ve forbidden you from seeing me,” Betty assumed.
Jughead shook his head. “He wouldn’t have. I know my father, Betty. He would’ve loved you regardless where you came from because you make me so fucking happy and you make me a better person, Betty Cooper. You bring out the best in me and makes me want to be a better person for myself, for you, for the Serpents. Being the leader of the Serpents doesn’t mean I have to make shitty decision all the time.”
Betty’s heart swelled. She didn’t know he had such a big impact on her boyfriend’s life. “Juggie-”
“Do you have any idea how much I love you?” Jughead shook his head, chuckling. “I don’t think it’s healthy to love someone as much as I love you,” he added before pressing a kiss to Betty’s lips. The blonde’s lips turned up into a smile and Jughead pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her. She snaked her arms around his torso, under his jacket, and pressed her face against his chest.
