    maybe sitting by and watching someone challenge the lower-ranked assassin she called her only friend who’s trying to walk away wasn’t exactly a smart… friend move. but breaking the rules could result in something way shittier for her. and she knew he could take him.

    when the sorry sucker was dead, the blonde overheard travis mumbling to himself and brought herself over to him. she gently took his hands into hers and gave the man an annoyed sigh.

    ‘ hey, relax. you won. and we’ll be gettin’ out of here soon. ‘

travis hates blood. he isn’t squeamish about it, but there’s something incredibly fucking unsettling about being sprayed in the face with the entire inner workings of the dude he just sliced a sword through. it takes the assassin a few seconds to REACT -- blankly staring at the corpse as if he weren’t actually there, just watching it play out on a movie screen. then the realization hits him and he stumbles, then becomes acutely aware of the fact he’s shaking.

he’s lost in thought again when angie brings him back with a touch, rough hands clasping his own. he blinks once, twice, then nods. “yeah. fuck. i won.”

it doesn’t bring him any satisfaction, but he offers his friend a smile anyway. “some assassin, huh ?? can’t even fuckin -- kill a guy without feelin’ sick. talk about hating your job.”

he tenses when he feels slender arms wrap around his waist, eyes opening to find his fellow assassin burying her face in his chest in a somewhat comforting hug. and hesitates only for a second before returning it, one hand tangling itself in messy blonde locks. and he’s silent. staring at her, tears threatening to spill out & re-stain his cheeks. angie - it hits him, suddenly - is his BEST FUCKING FRIEND. and what a realization to come out of a shared drunken bender rounding off a shit-filled week.

he squeezes her tighter, a smile appearing on his face against all odds. "i know it’s hard to NOT throw yourself at me, but i only go for french girls.” travis lets out a hollow laugh at his joke, and then starts crying. tears spill over and all he can do is squeeze his friend even tighter, bury his face in her hair and wait it out. he’ll feel better by the morning.

they both will. they always do.
