How GW Portrays them: grimdark child soldiers and human bullets that occasionally survive hell and back just for the honour of continuing to do that, just as an adult.

How I prefer to see them:

*Imperial guard veteran platoon stops as they hear the sounds of a whistle blowing*

Veteran Sergeant: Wait, here comes the whiteshields.

*A parade of 5-10 year old cute baby-faced kids comes by, wearing loose fitting clothing *

Whiteshield 1: “Heave-ho! Heave-ho! Lets go!” *whistle blows*

Whiteshield group: “Heave-ho, heave-ho, heavy-weapons-got-to-go!”

*the lead whiteshield blows his whistle again*

“Look look! Everyone look! Its our oldier big bros and sisses! Saaaalute!”

*The soldier-kindergarten salutes, dropping the boxes of ammo and guns they were hauling in the process.*

Whiteshield 1: “Oh no everyone! You dropped your stuff! Pick it all up, lets do our best!”

Whiteshields: “Yeah!”

Whiteshield 1: “The Commissar cadets taught me a cadence, I’m gonna become a corporal someday! Lets sing everyone! Heave-ho, Heave-ho, Hey we-got-to-go, Heave-ho Heave-ho Heaven loves us dont’cha know!”

Veteran sergeant: “Oh my emperor, its too cute.”

*one five year old girl with a pigtail walks up, her helmet dipping onto her nose due to it being so oversized.*

[The Imperial guard squad loses all decorum and starts messing with the whiteshields, giving them shoulder rides, helping them carry stuff, and patting their heads]
