Dumb idea but Sephiroth gets amnesia post DoC, and Genesis reminds him (WITH ALL THE WORST BITS)

Ahhh! Thank you so much for this, it uh...may have gotten out of hand just a tad and as such I'm putting it under a cut.

Also, er, this is only him explaining the events of Crisis Core (this is a Genesis narrative, no way we can get through it in one sitting LOL) but I will happily add further instalments though if you guys want 'em.

Genesis: So. You're back.

Sephiroth: Yes.

G: What do you remember?

S: It is....hazy.

G: Do you remember telling me to go fuck myself?

S: I wouldn't have done that.

G: Oh. But you did. You really, really did. (folds his arms over his chest huffily) I was dying you know.

S: Were you?

G: Yes. I was dying and I asked for your help and you told me to rot.

S: ...

G: And then you locked yourself in the basement library of the spooky old Shinra mansion in Nibelheim like some ridiculous ghoul.

S: Why would I do that? Were we arguing?

G: (waving his hand dismissively) I’d hardly call it an argument. But you did seem to become a tad upset when I brought up the somehwat convoluted history of your origin.

S: ...what "convoluted history".

G: We’ll circle back to that in a bit. Would you like to hear what happened next?

S: Probably not.

G: Well too bad. You came out of the basement crazed and delusional (you were probably hangry you realise? I know what you’re like if your blood sugar dips) -

S: Genesis get to the point.

G: Ahem yes. You came out of that basement convinced you were the descendent of a godlike ancient being intent on taking back the planet. You sacked the town. Murdered all the citizens, burned the whole place to ashes.

S: (horrified)

G: But that’s not the worst bit.

S: There’s a worse bit???

G: You broke into the Nibelhiem reactor and decapitated an ancient alien specimen you were convinced was your long lost Mother and you took her head as souvenir.

S: …that is worse, yes.

G: Then Fair turned up and tried to stop you...

S: I didn't -

G: No, he survived (well that bit anyways) -

S: Wait what?

G: Later. We're unpacking this bit now. Focus.

S: ...

G: Where Fair failed, Cloud was victorious.

S: I don't follow.

G: Cloud Stife. Infantry man. He ran you through with the buster sword, but somehow even that wasn't enough to stop you. You impaled him but while you were caught up in a rather ill advised villainous monologue, he turned the tables on you and flung you into the depths of the reactor.

S: Did I...die?

G: Oh most certainly, yes.

S: But now I'm back.

G: Well...yes and no.

S: What.

G: That wasn't the end of it.

S: ...it...wasn't?

G: Oh darling. Not even close.

Genesis pissed as fuck post DoC because destroying the world was supposed to be his thing, damn it, and Sephiroth gets all the fucking credit

You're not wrong. And man oh man, I think about post DoC Genesis a lot (like...A LOT). I feel like once he's out of the caves and realises just exactly went on post the events of Crisis Core he's just kind of...pissed off about everything. He's pissed off at Shinra (including what's left of it), he's pissed off at this stupid new world that he doesn't understand. And yup you're absolutely right, he's pissed off at Sephiroth for being SEPHIROTH. After all, this was HIS fight against the world but he just had to go ahead and go insane, get himself killed, resurrected (?) and try to slam a damn meteor into the planet. And they call him a drama king.

Most of all though, Genesis is pissed off at himself. Because he knows it's all his fucking fault and he hates himself for it.

Weirdly I was just working on some narrative text for the comic about almost exactly this scenario and since it’s such a coincidence you sent this ask through at almost the exact time I’ll stick it here:

Genesis: (narration) He was never meant to be the villain. That was my job. And he couldn’t even let me have that could he. The fucking nerve.

(Out loud) Not everything is a competition...

(Narration contd.) Which was a lie of course.

I suppose I should feel grateful that he failed - even more spectacularly than even I could have managed…which now that I think of it is something I might have to be annoyed about later…always second best huh Rhapsodos?
