Why do so many avgeeks care about military jets god theyre so lame
a boeing 787-8 has crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad, in India. It was AI171, a regular flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, and had only taken off seconds before it impacted a medical hostel in the city. The plane had only reached a height of 600ft before it began to fall again.
A mayday call was put to ATC, which does mean that the pilots were aware of a problem and had time to react to whatever it was, but no time to recover. This is a tragic incident, and news reports currently believe there are no survivors among the 242 souls on board, as well as many deaths on the ground. However, there are survivors among the injured in the hostel, and so all my hopes are with them to pull through and recover quickly.
I know it's very normal to speculate on stuff like this, but to clear things up, the boeing 787 (especially this type, the 787-8) has never suffered a single hull loss, nor has there ever been a fatality linked to it until this point. It was introduced first in 2011, so 14 years of constant service with over 1,100 planes gives it an immaculate safety record. Boeing whistleblower Sam Salehpour did raise concerns that shortcuts in the manufacturing of this type could possibly cause an explosive decompression similar to that of China Airlines Flight 611, however this is not likely to be what happened here (these incidents normally take place at much higher altitudes and during cruise phase of flight). I will probably update this post as the reports are released and more information comes out.
For now, keep the families in your minds and hearts and remember to be discerning in where you source "new info" about accidents.
I love following you on tiktok too because ill see an aerospace themed tiktok and think about sending it to you and then i open the comments and youre in there 😭😭😭
