if Obara was a white dude fandom would have been gushing about the tragic backstory and character, with 10000 ships where she is healed by the power of true love. (like, she is a lot like fanon sandor only without creepy pedo shit or actual childmurdering)
pre-LSH Catelyn killed more people (1) than Obara actually
Yeah! She comes from such a tragic background. It still impacts her in the present, from how she channels all her grief into anger to how, according to Doran, she seems to have inherited some degree of her mother’s alcoholism. She’s the eldest of her sisters and cousins and is fiercely protective of all of them. If she was a white dude?! Fandom would OBSESS over her.
She is actually such a fascinating exhibit of how different biases intersect, too. Because she’s a) not white, b) a woman, and c) somewhat masculine in presentation. And the last one is especially interesting, because there is a CONSTANT debate in fandom over “who has it worse”, feminine women or gender non-comforting women. And for the most part, it’s kind of a dumb debate, because the answer is there’s no way to win when it comes to misogyny. But it’s interesting to see how Obara never figures into that debate at all because people refuse to actually think about her for more than the fraction of a second they need to call her stupid and bloodthirsty.
