Muse A is a noble born and raised. As such, they spent most of their life confined to the insides of the walls of their fortress and to the weight of their duties. One day, during a trip to the city, they take a drastic decision: they escape, rushing aimlessly through the alleys until they reach the harbor. They slip inside a ship that would soon be revealed to belong to Muse B, a renowned explorer (or would you call them a pirate?) just about to live. They find Muse A lurking inside their ship and Muse A begs them to be allowed to part with them. Muse B concedes, as long as Muse A works with them along the rest of the crew. There, Muse A finds their freedom — and, in Muse B, perhaps something more. 

[ I think it would also be cool to include supernatural elements. Perhaps the Pirate is cursed. Perhaps they find themselves in an unknown world. Who doesn’t love a good mermaid. Not intended FC’s or anything, just fitting gifs. EXTRA POINTS if she finds out she was actually a stolen pirate baby along the way and meets her father who is probably played by a rock star in a matted wig. ]

I sometimes have trouble telling the difference between metagaming and my character simply making inferences about another character based on observations. The character I play is very observant, and I always worry that I’ve somehow written them as being too observant in a thread. Do you have any tips on how to avoid metagaming in this regard?

A lot of it will come down to communication with your partner. 

But a lot of metagaming/godmodding occurs when you do the following*:

*character references are Apple and Peach so it’s easier to follow

Making inferences about something Apple would absolutely NOT know about Peach, and somehow know it anyway

Knowing what Peach is thinking when they haven’t said anything/made an expression to insinuate such

Apple insinuating something about Peach that makes it feel like the mun behind Peach must respond this way

Apple’s mun taking control of Peach and making them do something without permission of Peach’s mun. This ranges from forcing Peach to say, think, or do something without permission of Peach’s mun and simply taking the character over.

Saying that Peach’s character was hit, struck, or connected with something without consulting Peach’s mun first. For example: “Peach got hit by a rock so they HAVE to be hurt!” is pressuring the mun to put their character in a position they did not ask for. 

Basically, forcing something upon someone else’s character or simply taking control of them when you weren’t given permission to do so in that instance (if at all) is something you just don’t do. 

Asking your partner is best. Just interrupting the roleplay to say 

“Hey, would you be okay if my character happened to notice X about your character even though they haven’t said anything about it yet? Or would you rather it be kept secret for plot?” OR“Hey, would you be okay with your character getting hit by this rock my character is about to throw? Can I put it in my response to say it connected and hit them?”

There’s nothing wrong with your character being observant, but if they happen to notice EVERYTHING and know EVERYTHING, you’re probably pushing it.

When in doubt, ask. Always ask. There’s nothing wrong with asking.

Hi, long time lurker but first time asker. Lately I've kind of gotten into a disagreement with my RP partner about death in our respective universe. She's against it completely. She's gotten attached to the characters so much so that she doesn't like the thought. Which I understand. I love them too. But I'm wondering how exactly do I raise the stakes and keep dramatic tension up, if there's no fear for their lives?

There are always thing that can happen around the character that can affect them emotionally, and even if they may not die, they’re still able to suffer. So, some things to think about:

What are their morals? Do they have compassion for other people around them and would hate to see them hurt? The people around them can still die and be hurt.

They’re able to lose things, whether it’s another person, a pet, a cherished item, a title. There has to be risk in losing something.

Again, they can still suffer. They may not die, but things can hurt, and no one really enjoys that ultimately when it’s too much. They can bend, break. Not just their physical body, but their emotions, their metal state. 

There has to be a goal, even if it’s small at first, you can build it up. Do they want to accomplish something? Does something stand in their way? Will they lose something if they don’t accomplish the goal?

Everything around them is fair game (usually). So consider not just the main characters, but who they know, what they know, what they have as at risk to keep things going if the main characters aren’t at risk themselves necessarily (of finality in death I mean).

I have a question. I've been roleplaying for eight years now, and have no problem threading and roleplaying, but I've had one problem I can't seem to get rid of. Plotting. Usually, I try to let things take a natural flow, but most people want to plot before hand. Romance, friendship, I just can't. I always am a bit anxious to voice my own ideas, so I usually don't. Do you think it is fine if I don't like plotting, or do you think I should try and reach out? And if the latter, how should I do it?

There’s nothing wrong with not liking to plot. 

That said, I think it IS important to voice your ideas when you can, because sometimes partners may feel that things may be one-sided in terms of the movement of the plot if you’re just going with what they’re putting forth all the time.

If someone asks you to plot and you’re unsure, tell them you don’t currently have any ideas, but you’re happy to hear what they have in mind, and then based off of what they say, brainstorm further together. 

Bouncing ideas off of one another is a great way to make it collaborative. If person A talks about this idea, you can expand on it or change it up and see how you both can work on it together.

Like I said, there’s nothing wrong with not liking to plot, but trying to work together with your partner is a good, positive thing for both of you and the roleplay. I know you may be anxious sometimes, but the worst that can come out of voicing an idea is ‘no’ or ‘I’m not really interested in going in that direction’ or something similar. Try out some new things, you may discover things you really enjoy that you didn’t know about prior.

Hi! I don't know if you're able to help out with this, but I'm currently writing from the POV of a doctor. The other character is experiencing amnesia and doesn't remember who they are. I'm a bit lost because I really want to get it right, but I'm not sure how a doctor would handle this, and I've not been able to find anything online. Though the 9 Methods list will give you different ideas to play around with, the most common method of treatment for amnesia is Cognitive Therapy or Occupational Therapy. This may be repetitive over many sessions to attempt to access the memories that the brain has lost access to. Hopefully this can help give you an idea!

I have an RP partner I love talking and plotting to, but it seems like every time we make up a scenario, au, or just a plot, they always seem to have to place their muse in the splotlight compared to every other character. Their muse is always the hero, and always the one that takes up the hero platform in crossover AUs where another character should go. I want to bring this up to them somehow, but I don't know without hurting them in some way. Do you have any advice? Thank you.

Here is what I would say:

Hey, I just wanted to talk to you about something. Please know that it isn’t my intention to upset you in bringing this up, I just want to work on this together. I feel that any time we make up a scenario, do an AU, etc. your character seems to be in the spotlight/take up the hero role. I was just wondering if we could switch it up more and make it more balanced so we both have equal spotlight on our characters?
