Shik heard the door ring as they were taking a customer’s order. Glancing up, Shik smiled and returned the wave, watching as she took her usual seat by the window. With a nod and confirmation that they’d start on the customers’ orders, Shik made their way to the teacher.
“Looks like you have your hands full,” they said, nodding at the mound of paperwork splayed out on the table. “Want me to make something for you that’s energizing?” Their tone was full of concern and sympathy, but unlike when speaking with most of their other patrons, their emotions now were genuine.
Shik felt a particular fondness for Jungmoon. It wasn’t friendship or anything as silly as that. No, they just appreciated the U.Y. teacher’s respect for Shik’s privacy. Most customers mistook Shik’s friendliness as an open invitation to ask personal questions. Jungmoon, from the start, had been the exact opposite and so Shik was just a tad softer on her than most other customers…even if she was a hero.
