When the first men came to the island of Oldedrid, they found it occupied by dwarves and various races of elves. No one knew where these people came from or why they left their previous home, but it was clear to all that this new race was determined to conquer the island. The race of men was strong and unknown to anyone and little by little, they conquered the cities and the settlements that once belonged to the elves and dwarves. The elves, despite technologically surpassing the race of men, were defeated and had to retreat to an island located southeast of Oldedrid and the dwarves had to seek refuge in the mountains where men stopped hunting them.
Soon, they established a new kingdom. Folkvar, the leader among men, gave lands to his fellow brothers and sisters in arms that helped him to become king. Nine cities for nine families. His dynasty ruled the island of Oldedrid for a thousand years, until the curse of the Gods descended upon then.
They came during the night. A low roar invaded Oldredid, a blazing fire soon emerged from the skies. The dragons had come, enslaving everything man, woman and child. The dwarves hid underground and the elves were able to stay unnoticed for they had a sea separating them and Oldredid was such a big island. However, the race of Men, despite having to face alone a mortal enemy, refused to go down without a fight. Various uprisings and attacks attempted to weaken the Dragons’ power. Unfortunately, most of them were unsuccessful and the dragons punished everyone who betrayed them by burning them alive.
Years and years passed by. The race of men changed drastically, most of them became weak and afraid, affirming that this was the price to pay for claiming a land that wasn’t theirs in the first place. But still, there were some who resisted, some that learned the dragon language and used it against the dragons by learning their shouts and killing them. The race of men soon had a big army and the dragons soon fell, one by one. When the war was over, they buried the dragons, sealed their crypts and cursed those who tried to open them.
Men rebuilt their great kingdom again, but many things were lost. Some say men are not as brave and honorable as they were before, that the dragons’ oppression made them cunning and petty. Today, the whole kingdom relies on scheming and plotting. A civil war raged a year ago between the ‘rightful’ king and Folkvar’s lost heir. A dark figure has been seen wandering around the old dragon tombs. The race of men is blind again. They will return.
