Is Your Boiler and Plumbing System Ready for the Christmas Rush?
Christmas is almost here, which means one thing. Our boilers and plumbing systems are about to be pushed harder than we push ourselves to finish shopping on Christmas Eve.
Last year, my boiler decided to throw a tantrum on Christmas Eve and stop working completely. I ended up calling a local plumber in Sheffield who basically told me, “Yep… this is our Black Friday.” Apparently, everything breaks in December. Pipes freeze, drains clog, and boilers give up on life. Festive cheer all around.
So this year, I’m actually trying to be an adult and do a few checks before chaos strikes. Sharing them here in case anyone else wants to avoid the joy of taking an ice-cold shower on Christmas morning.
• Check your boiler pressure before the weather hits “why do I live here” levels.
• Lag exposed pipes because frozen pipes are not fun unless you enjoy surprise indoor waterfalls.
• Clear the kitchen drain, especially before cooking enough food to feed a small army.
• Bleed your radiators so your living room feels warm and not like an abandoned train station.
• Find your stop tap because when something bursts, you suddenly turn into a contestant on a game show you never signed up for.
Anyone else doing a pre Christmas “please don’t break” home check? Or have you already learned the hard way as I did?
