Facebook Redesigns Like Button, Tests Star Ratings
Has anybody figured out where the Facebook thumbs up or the Google “+” icon came from? We see this everywhere, and even in places where Facebook posts are simply inserted into another website. Actually clicking on the like button means a few things – but it does not necessarily mean that you like what you are reading. Basically, it simply means that you are aware of something. It could be an article on child abuse, and liking it doesn’t mean that you are fan of hitting children; it simply means that you are aware of the situation. Liking a post also helps the community move, and since we are social creatures, we tend to gravitate towards posts that are already liked by others. I think this is why Facebook decided to ditch the thumbs symbol entirely and go for something more neutral. Instead of a thumbs up, the “like” icon is simply printed with the word “like”. Perhaps we won’t feel so disgusted with ourselves when we like a picture of a girl that we think is good looking. It sort of gives us a little bit of distance from the actually meaning of the word. It probably won’t affect musicians as much. http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2013/11/facebook-redesigns-like-button-shares-new-stats-test-star-rarings.html
