If you break up Sugilite and Sardonyx into all of their components, they're made of Amethyst, Ruby and Sapphire or Pearl, Ruby and Sapphire respectively. Amethyst and Ruby are both hot-tempered and Sapphire and Pearl both aren't, in general. That might be why Sugilite has such a temper, because that's two hot-tempered component gems, and why Sardonyx doesn't, because that's two generally cool-headed gems.

perhaps, i do remember speculation about that a few years back! it’s definitely possible to write a sugilite with a temper who still isn’t villainized/portrayed negatively though since that just reeks of antiblackness. tbh i’d love to see a character in the show that has a temper but isn’t treated like a joke or portrayed negatively for it

🔥 Mayor Dewey

he’s nothing more than comedy relief + someone who hits on pearl but i wish we could see his relationship with his son more. it might make him more likable (or potentially not, who knows)

oh and not to start any drama but……mayor dewey is gay

Do you think that it's possible that coding Blue Diamond as being Indian could have affirmed misconceptions about Indian culture? BD is the one of the Diamonds leading a society driven by a caste-system, so is it possible that that could have affirmed the misconception that Indian culture = an oppressive caste system? If that makes sense?

you raise a good point! the caste system is usually the go-to thing people use to defend racist anti-south-asian sentiments and point out brown cultures are “backwards,” when really it was british colonization that really aggravated the elitist nature of the system (not to say that it never had any flaws beforehand, though, because it definitely did. but the current caste system is a product of colorism and racism, whereas the original one was based off of classism).

anyways, whole other topic there, sorry! i agree, though, i believe it was unintentional to give off that sort of vibe of indian culture = an oppressive caste system and more of a product of internalized stereotypes, but has questionable implications.

I agree!! I really want an episode where Sugilite appears again and is focused on positively, rather than as an antagonist. Do you think her scarcity of appearances has to do with the cost of Nikki Minaj voicing her? Or the Crewniverse?

i think the voice actress does have to do with it, but i feel like they shouldn’t have chosen nicki, as cool as it was to have her voice a character in-show. they’ve replaced mr. smiley’s va before, but he’s a pretty minor character so i guess you can’t really tell the difference. 

not to mention that estelle is pretty expensive herself, yet she’s a regular. like, i feel like the crew knows if they hire a va that’s expensive, the character themselves will end up being shelved, so i feel like it’s both reasons. especially since hiring uzo for bismuth didn’t change the fact that her storyline was already planned out regardless of who voiced her

I don't think it was ever said that the temple fusion fought in the war, we barely know a thing about her. The only era we know she likely existed in was whenever William Dewey lived.

yeah thats what i thought; i do remember a new comic coming out (or is coming out, im not sure if it’s released yet) that includes the temple fusion though, so maybe there is some more info about her yet to come?? idk

also, i just realized the temple fusion probably hasn’t made an appearance in-show at all yet! the fusion in historical friction has four arms:
