tw angst, bit of self-deprecating thoughts

Most days were decent, some days were good, but there were always those few days that caught you off guard. Days that stretched on for eternities, seconds feeling like eons ticking by. Days that were hard on you, that weighed you down like an anchor to a ship. Your emotions felt overwhelming on those few days, as if they weren’t your feelings but instead, you were theirs to control. Those days were rough. Often times you would succumb to the warmth of your and John's bed; laying on your back and looking up at the ceiling, silence providing a hollow peace to the chaos in your head.

It was one of those days. Your eyes were trained on the clock hung up on the wall of your bedroom, monitoring the minutes pass by. No matter how much you tried to curl up in your blanket, it was still cold, a frigid uncomfortable chill that constantly lingered. You tried to cuddle with a stuffed animal, tried to sleep, even attempted to color in your coloring book with soft music playing, but nothing was working. Your heart still felt heavy, a dark gloom settling over you.

You hear the soft squeak of the bedroom door opening, and sturdy footsteps coming near. “Angel? You in here?” John murmurs, walking closer to your bed. He sees the lump of blankets, exactly as they were when he left for work. John comes closer, settling on the edge of the bed, gently pulling the blankets down to uncover your face; you were wearing his shirt, your eyes open and staring back at his. His gaze softens, a hand reaching to brush through your hair. John questions you gently, “Hey there, lit’l love.. everythin’ ol’right?”, his voice a whisper when he asks.

You avert your eyes, trying not to meet his gaze while shame fills your head. You didn't do anything today. You didn't get anything done. You rotted in bed the whole day. You didn't even get up to— a hand tilts your chin up. You're falling into his eyes, a deep blue that envelops you entirely. Another warm hand wraps around your back, pulling you up and into John's lap. You squirm a little, breaths getting heavy as a soft touch soothes the harsh thoughts running amok in your head. "Shh, don't cry love. 'M right here angel, righ' here." Cry? Were you crying? You raised a hand to your face, finding tears streaming down your cheeks.

All you want to do is apologize, thinking- knowing you shouldn't be crying, but John knows the way you work. He whispers into your ear, his thumbs caressing your cheeks and wiping away your tears, "Deep breaths sweet'eart, c'mon, slowly. It's okay, yer okay." You slow your breaths, hands clinging to his shirt, trembling. John sighs and brings you closer in his embrace. “Nothin’ wrong with taking a break love, even Papa needs breaks sometimes. ‘M not mad at you, still love you just the same hun.” You sniffle quietly, your brain getting fuzzier the longer he holds you. John begins to rock you gently in his lap, a hand around your back keeping you tight, another sifting through your hair. “Didn't mean to leave for so long angel, ‘m sorry..”

He hums you a lullaby, murmuring how much he loves you, how much he adores coming home to his baby. “Doing so good for me button, did you know that? Its hard when ‘m gone love, I know hun. You’re so brave, so big and strong aren't you?” You nod along, sniffling as he continuously praises you. John holds you tightly on his lap, his voice a gentle tone while he picks up your stuffed animal and whispers, “Stuffie keepin’ you company while I was gone aye? They takin’ good care of you while papa’s out?” John manages to make you smile. He chuckles, glad to see you happier.

“Righ’ then. I brought back snacks from that store you like, and your shows got a new episode. Or, would you rather take a nap with me?” John suggests lovingly, one of his hands still brushing through your hair. You look at him and whisper that you'd rather take a nap. He nods, pressing a soft kiss to your temple. “Sounds like a plan angel, give me a second to get changed out of this hm?” You nod and let go of him slowly. John gives your hand a gentle squeeze before standing up and walking over to his dresser. He changes quickly, sinking back into the mattress with you. John lets you curl up next to him with your stuffie in one arm and the other wrapped around John's arm. He smiles and pulls the blankets over the both of you, watching your eyes grow sleepy.

He leans closer and places another kiss on your forehead, whispering to you while you drift off to sleep, “Sweet dreams love.”

Hawks Caregiver Headcanons

(even though i’ve never watched mha 😅)

Keigo is a caring individual, despite how nonchalant he tries to seem. when you first tell him about your regression, he understands pretty well, and reassures you that he’ll help in anyway he can.

As much as he wishes he could, Keigo can’t cook at all 😬 but whenever you want a specific food (chicken nuggets, noodles, cookies, etc.) he’ll order it as fast as he can or just fly out and get it himself. he’ll gladly eat with you, making small talk and trying hard to understand your gibberish. he’ll nod along and furrow his brows, “no no, that makes sense.”, “huh, never thought of it like that, good idea birdie.”, “yeaaahhhh, that’s deep.”

Keigo’s a very silly person 😋, always making silly little comments and teasing you, holding things above your reach with his feathers until you ask politely. Keigo would 100% make silly faces when you’re feeling down. if you’re sulking in bed wrapped up all snug in your blankets, he would pretend to wander the house, calling out for you. then, once he “found” you hiding away in your room, he would pretend you’re invisible, settling into the bed and smiling as he joked. “wow, i never knew they made such tiny pillows- hm, i wonder how soft it is..”. he makes things fun, adding in little rewards for tidying up your room, helping him with his paperwork, and taking care of yourself.

Also also, Keigo gives amazing hugs/cuddles. he’ll wrap his arms around you and hush you softly, one hand rubbing circles into your back, the other massaging your scalp gently. he would curl his wings inwards, like a little cocoon of warmth and love. Keigo won’t let go you of until you let go first. he knows how rough life can get, and it’s not easy to keep up with everything, so he makes sure to remind you that he always has your back.
