Pop Quiz: Why are we so obsessed with online personality quizzes?
Every day millions of us take seemingly pointless quizzes to find out answers to important questions like...
Our question: Why do we love this stuff so much?
Even if you haven’t heard of Buzzfeed, you probably still would have taken their most popular quiz “Which state do you actually belong in?” where more people got Wyoming than actually live there! This site, whose content is dominated by lists and quizzes, upped its monthly unique views from 100 million to 200 million in 2014, and quizzes dominate these views. (Buzzfeed 2014)
While most of us would say they are just fun ways to pass the time, deep down it is a little more specific. According to Psych Your Mind, a blog produced mostly by doctoral and Ph.D candidates, it boils down to three main things: The quizzes help us achieve an identity, people like getting feedback that confirms their view of themselves, and they help us justify our behavior.
The Huffington Post produced an article written by Laura Schocker about this topic recently, interviewing Steven Meyers, Ph.D, Professor of Psychology at Roosevelt University in Chicago who explained that “People, he explains, tend to triangulate three questions when making sense of their lives: Who am I? Who do others think I am? And who do I want to be? "These tests, especially when we share the results online, allow us to think about all of those questions in fun ways,"(Huffington Post article, by Laura Schocker)
What if these quizzes were more than just fun for the consumer?
This is why we have chosen to productize Personality quizzes, polls and other popular social interactions for businesses to help engage their users and match marketing strategies to consumer behaviors. Plyfe has been used by all kinds of brands and content creators to produce quizzes with business objectives in mind, such as: engagement, delivering targeted offers, generating leads, driving social traffic, learning and understanding more about consumer preferences.
These quizzes allow companies to make their marketing interactive, creating a conversation with the consumers rather than a monologue at them. They also allow companies to direct users to specific content based on their results, generally making it more appealing because they have, in a sense, directed themselves there by answering questions.
And the proof is in the numbers, on average these quizzes have shown:
With that said, why don't you give it a try here and find out...
