Malaria Elimination Scheme DAMAN

Odisha government will launch Malaria Elimination Scheme DAMAN (Durgama Anchalare Maleria Nirakaran) in 8 districts covering around 8000 villages of the state, mostly in tribal dominated areas.

The state comes up with an innovative idea in fighting malaria. Services included in DAMAN are diagnosis, treatment, nutrition and hemoglobin test, supply of medicines and awareness among the masses.

The government will spend Rs.25cr in its first phase and a total of Rs.120cr will be spent for five years. Around 44lac insecticide-treated long lasting nets (LL) will be given by government to prevent mosquito-bites in the rural areas of the state. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today launched the Centre’s three social security schemes at Vijayawada Tumalapalli Kalashetram here.

Speaking on this occasion, Naidu said these schemes were the beginning of a “new chapter” in social welfare.

The schemes – Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) – were simultaneously launched at 115 locations throughout the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the three schemes at a function in Kolkata today.

Naidu said they would be a “boon” to the poor and everybody should enrol in them.

Describing the three schemes as “trident” of social security, Parrikar called on the banks to ensure that they reach the people. Source: PTI
