"4 Play times three" (1/3) [Y'all motherfuckers don't know shit about Y?N-Vee. This is my shit and its fucking freaky. I just love this song and it's by a group who thought they could do a cover of Rose Royce's "I'm Going Down" and failed to MJB, but they were like a singing, female version of 2 Live Crew and that's what I like, except less controversial.] #YNVee #4Play #PMPRecords #RushAssociatedLabels #DefJamRecords #IslandRecords #MercuryRecords #PolygramRecords #IslandDefJam #RKelly #BumpNGrind #1994 #1995 #1990s #JiveRecords #SonyBMG #FreakShit
April 15, 1995 - Montell Jordan started a seven week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'This Is How We Do It', a No.11 hit in the UK. On a personal note: "This Is How We Do It" reminds me of good times! Def Jam, Def Jam West, PMP Records, Floss Angeles, Urban Music in the 90s. I think most of us on the Def Jam staff felt like "This Is How We Do It" was OUTTA HERE the first time we heard the record. A smash! Montell was always a good brother to work with and we had a blast on this video shoot, even if it felt like we were racing the clock the whole time. Now Montell's next single, "Somethin' 4 Da Honeyz", is where the drama went down FOR REAL (none of it having to do with Montell himself). It took us three video shoots to get a complete "Honeyz" video in the can. And the 2nd shoot has gone down in 90s Urban Music video shoot folklore. It was the best video shoot I had ever been on right up until it turned into the worst. Jon Stockton, I know you will never forget how Nate Dogg, our homie, almost took our heads off with that friggin' golf club when he was going after Dresta! I never signed a release but sure enough I found myself on BEEF DVD! Shout out to Montell, Kristin, Russell Simmons, Lyor Cohen, Julie Greenwald, Kevin Liles (who just KNEW that we could have Dresta, Knocc Out and the Deathrow artists on the same set all day without any drama. "We can chill them niggas out." NOT!), Paul Stewart, Jon Stockton, Motti Shulman, Greg Jessie, Jayson Jackson, Keith Ward ("This Is How We Do It" video director), Tracey Baker (TIHWDI video producer), Hype Williams ("Honeyz" video director), Philip Atwell ("Honeyz" video producer), Wendell Haskins (writer of the "Honeyz" video treatment), PMP Records, Outburst Records, Def Jam West and my whole Def Jam 90s Fam! "DO IT FOR THE LOGO!!" (said with a Lyor accent, of course!) •• #montelljordan #thisdayinmusic #1995 #1990s #defjam #defjamwest #pmprecords
