If you've ever made a podfic or might be interested in trying it out, check out Fanart Frenzy, a new multifandom event designed to counteract the art commission scammers and other AI nonsense going on in fandom. Podfics are just one of many art options for the event, and you can join as a commenter as well! Details below!

What is it?

A bingo event designed to counteract art commission scammers and encourage fic writers by making art for the fics you love in any fandom!

How it works:

Sign up via the entry form below. You’ll get a bingo card with prompts guiding you towards fics in any fandom. Pick a fic, make any kind of art you like (drawings, embroidery, playlists, memes, etc.), and share with the fic author to mark off each square.

Can’t draw?

You can make any kind of art you like – crochet, decorated cookies, composing a score, recording a podfic...

Podficcer Applications Open!

Hi everyone! We know it's been a while since we've posted an update, but our contributors have been hard at work on their creations for the zine. As of a few days ago, though, the writers and artists have all officially finished their pieces, and we're now opening up applications for audio pack contributors!

These contributors will make podfics of the fics our writers created and audio descriptions for our artists' works, in hopes of making this zine accessible to an even wider audience. We will also accept other forms of audio fanworks as well, such as fansongs!

podficcer woes

I have only done it for two years, but I feel awkward offering the podfic coupon. I have a few people who are very happy to use it, and then I have people who respond with:

"So you just read my hard-written work? That doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in."

sigh.

I have an entire soapbox about accessibility, but honestly my feelings are a little hurt. I know this one person is not the norm at all but somehow their voice seems a little louder.

Quick podfic recs

I've been meaning to organize all my favorite fics and podfics into a nice long list and post some links but life keeps getting in the way and who knew assembling a fic rec list was SO much work (when youre even half a perfectionist)!

So in the interest of posting anything at ALL to at least get myself started, id like to submit to tumblr my heartfelt appreciation and praise for a few podfic readers ive been enjoying this past year. These are just three off the top of my head there are SO MANY MORE.

FayJay !!! i've listened to almost every one of fayjay's many good omens podfics and WOW! Im obsessed!!

Cookiemom6067 who has recorded one of my favorite trek fic series, Atlas by distractedKat which is NO small undertaking and it was so great to be able to listen to it

Podfixx/LockedinJohnlock, of course! I am well on my way to listening to every pod that podfixx has ever recorded, especially all the sherlock ones!! I also love that most are available on soundcloud

If people are interested (and even if therye not) in fic and podfic recommendation lists for sherlock holmes acd and bbc, star trek tos and aos, ofmd, star wars, spn, old guard, stephen king's It, and good omens in particular, such lists are in my drafts and will SOMEDAY this year be finished :)

Podficcers are absolutely wonderful, I’ve been pretty injured lately and podficcers have really helped me get through it. Y’all deserve so much love, and I am very grateful that you all do what you do.
