Ronald Pofalla (Chief of Staff of the German Chancellery and a Federal Minister for Special Affairs) said that British and US intelligence agencies had assured the government that "there was no comprehensive spying and wiretapping by their services in Germany".
He also said that NSA "had declared in writing that it is prepared to observe German law in Germany".
