So is there speculative fiction in your world?
Yes, that’s kind of a given in most societies I think. There’s tales of thin beings that are lines. Just lines. Pretty weird huh? They say they act like a single organism, moving at the same time to replicate a shape and can even mimic the voice of people you know or even your own voice! The reason for this varies, but most believe they want to replace you. But the disguise is not flawless, they say these beings can trip and mess up the shape they’re imitating, they can also sound echoy, because each line has it’s own voice and they can never agree who’s turn it is. Of course these beings don’t actually exist. They’re usually told to children to keep them home at night.
Then there’s dot beings. Yup, even weirder. They also mimic shapes, but do so by tracing a shape in a super fast pace, so to us it appears to be a line that is blurry. A lot of shapes believe they’ve met these dot beings, they seem much more benevolent and curious compared to the line beings.
Author: Actually these beings do exist in-canon! Linelanders live in a world that’s unstable as it is, and sometimes the line-plane they live on bends or snaps apart, causing many of them to plummet into Flatland. After the initial shock experiencing the compass points for the first time, they try their best to blend into Flatland society, banding together to mimic the strange multi-lined beings around them, and because their heads and butts have two voices, they are masters at vocalizations.
Dot beings are Pointlanders who by some odd miracle, have become aware of a world and of other pointlanders outside themselves. This is very, very rare and the realization of this have drove those who gain this hyper-awareness to stress out and die by existential crisis. But for those that keep a grip on themselves, they discover they have a unique ability to teleport by super speed, finding themselves in different dimensions but with no real ability to stay in them for too long before being ricocheted back to their 1 point dimension.
