Man, no offense but fuck Poland ,__,
This happens, when the country is taken by right-wing populist party which looks for some “enemy”. In 2015 it was disgusting campain about refugees. Today, just before next elections they founded “ideology LGBT+” (please don’t ask me to explain what they think “ideology LGBT+” is, it’s so stupid that my brain hurts). And catholic curch, which exist in this country as powerful mafia encourage that bullshit.
Government legitimized rasist and homophobic public hate speech and acts. I don’t remember now well, but I read that rasist and homophobic attacks raised in Poland after 2015 two or three times, bc small (yes, this is still small group of people in 30m citizens’ country) group of fuckers feels unreprimanded.
Post was about event in Białystok. This is a place in Podlasie, region which rasist and homophobic, national acts are typical, so LGBT and not-white people are unwelcome there. Another region which “nationalistic tradition of being stupid, agressive neo-nazi fuckers” is Pokarpacie in my opinion.
Organising Pride Parade there is an act of bravery and strength. (I am sorry, here will be my off-top): Remember that some people are not LGBT but want to show they will stand with LGBT people no matter what. Thats why I hate to read here, on tumblr, these “hur dur, cis and hetero people go away from our parade, this is our place, you are not welcomed”. You know what? You know nothing what means being an ally in Pride Parade in countries like Poland. That means a lot for LGBT people, that makes them stronger, that makes them feel that not only them think they deserve to be treated like normal citizens in their country. And it’s safer in bigger group. They have smaller chance to be attacked. Allies also can be attacked, they take the risk to show their support. Saying “you know what, this is only LGBT people party, go away” is so.fucking.stupid.
That means not WHOLE country is that extreme. LGBT people are safe in bigger, Polish cities like capital city, Warszawa, Poznań, I think also Gdańsk and even Kraków.
Only one small disclaimer: nobody died during parade in Białystok, posts are overreacting. I wanted to precise that even if this fact doesn’t change the level of tragedy and fear.
