So, given everything going on with Furguson and police brutality in general, I started reflecting on my own experiences with the police and how lucky I was that I had never run into anything but helpful, sweet cops. And then I was like, hold the fucking phone one second, I'm a middle class white girl in a nice neighborhood. There is literally no other demographic that a scuzzy cop is more likely to be super nice to. Like, the more racist, bigoted, and sexist you are, the more you are going to be motivated to help out a little white girl when she needs it. The same cops that treat minorities like utter shit turn around and help me find my car when I'm lost, and let me off with warnings when I get caught doing stupid illegal crap with my friends. And that's when I realized how important it is to listen to marginalized voices instead of your own experiences when stuff doesn't seem to be lining up.

I really need to stop reading news about the police. It's emotionally exhausting watching people's rights just disappear instantly. 

If I hear about one more person calling 9-11 for medical attention only to have two cops show up and beat the shit out of him/her, I'm leaving the country.
