Ever heard of the separation of church and state?? It is a very important concept in our constitution! It mandates that religion not get in the way, control, infiltrate, or any way alter our political system! The founding fathers were worried that religion would try to take freedom from the people, destroy the political system, and dominate the country politically. That being said, there is a new threat to the sanctity of our constitution and political system: FEELINGS!!!!! YES you heard right, people are actually using their feelings to promote their side! Not objective information, Not politics, not common sense.... Their feelings. as an example I HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE is one of the most self-centered and idiotic arguments you can make regarding laws and specifically gun laws. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL SAFE! What you consider safe may be dangerous to others. In UT Austin, College students protested new open carry laws because it made the college feel less safe for them. However, the people with open carry guns would likely feel more safe knowing they had an efficient method of protecting themselves.
it is nonsensical to argue based on feelings when dealing with politics. You need to use facts. this is what the democrat party has lost in the last few years, while the republicans have only gained it. Sure there are some on both parties who disappoint the trend, but they will be rooted out by the system in the long run anyway. I hope that both parties will realize that this country is much to important, to its people and to the world, to make decisions based off of feelings.
