leporid of the day #4 — the britannia petite rabbit! (oryctolagus cuniculus)

(we are doing requests now thats what ive decided just now since someone sent a suggestion in our asks. thank you by the way!! it felt alot cooler to look into a rabbit someone manually chose for me to research rather than just picking one myself -coil)

theyre known in the united kingdom as the polish rabbit, but in the united states as the britannia petite. they were also called hutch rabbits around the 1890s!

im a filthy american (so is four, and i assume most of you guys are) so im calling it the britannia petite, sorry. : P

theyre very commonly used for rabbit shows and as a 'fancy exhibition breed'.

they come in a variety of colors, often times resembling other kinds of rabbits! some are the black otter, sable marten, siamese sable, ruby eyed white, broken (like english spot rabbits sorta), blue eyed white, chestnut agouti, and a few others. ive also seen a few with patterns similar to the himalayan rabbit!

theyre very small little things, comparable to the size of a netherland dwarf, which makes alot of people mix the two up. theyre also VERY energetic and curious!
