Though many despise flukes, it can very much be argued that they are an incredibly interesting species. Their comradery with each other leaves much to be explored, but luckily there is an NPC that helps do just that. Fluke Hermit provides an incredible addition to fluke lore, is entertaining as a character, and is overall one of the best NPCs that can be found in the game Hollow Knight. First, we must analyze how Fluke Hermit contributes to overall Fluke lore. Before you meet Fluke Hermit, you likely see flukes as flesh-eating beasts. Although they, like most enemies in Hollow Knight, are infected, what we know of them brings the impression that they've always been this way. However, this is proven wrong once the player meets Fluke Hermit. Her sapience implies that all flukes were at least somewhat intelligent before the infection, providing some lore to her species. Next, we should examine her as a character. We first meet her helping her sisters grow strong, which plays into the familial bonds flukes are shown to have with each other. She also apparently scavenges for treasures she believes her mother sends to her, giving her clear hobbies. Then, speaking to her later establishes her paranoia about the surface and Godseeker. After her mother dies, she will mention wanting to become the next mother for her species, furthering her devotion to her family and giving her a goal for the audience to root for. All of these elements work together in to create a surprisingly well rounded character. Some may argue that Fluke Hermit's limited screen time and dialogue hamper her as a character. However, I feel that while more dialogue would be appreciated, the limited dialogue she has is more than enough to establish herself as a character. Furthermore, her showing so much lore and personality in so few lines is a testament to how good her character is. In conclusion Fluke Hermit good.
Wow that's really cool and interesting!!
