Sensing a theme...

(2003) Sexual Tenshin - (Tenshin is Japanese for naivete.) Mai remains friends with Valon & Joey, though Joey is still pissed about Valon getting her involved in Paradisa, especially after Valon showed he really did care about her. (<<< I have since taken that down, cuz I didn’t like the messages it was sending otherwise. But what hadn’t gotten uploaded yet even was>>>) Joey supports her in going on a new date with Johnny Steps, til it turns south & Joey has to threaten his might-be-future-brother-in-law (Seto, dating Serenity) to send in the cavalry; Joey & Mai amicably raise twins til they do eventually get back together. (2006) Once Upon A Dream - Joey proposes to Mai, before losing his memory. Without him, self-esteem issues hit her again, so she believes she should let him go, rather than force him to remember all of the horrible things she put him through. Joey's friends are mixed on whether she was a good or bad influence, but Joey is drawn to her. Joey also wonders if it's fair to ask her to put up with him not remembering any of their good times. Both poised to walk away for the other's benefit, they decide to give it another try. (2010) Not a fic, but I found a diary entry talking about an ex-bf & Hunny way before we were engaged, saying that I wish I could just have both. "But such is the nature of dating." Can only have 1 at a time. [In hindsight, ex-bf was nowhere near right; that was wishful thinking while Hunny's the real deal.] (2014) Broken Dreams - Eugene immediately jumps to a marriage proposal, since what else is a family-less young woman going to do. Once their difference in status is established, however, as much as he loves her, he resigns to having to forsake her to whoever her would-be prince will be. But he only hopes it's someone who will love and respect and cherish her, hopefully more or better than he ever could. (2015) Suitors of Rapunzel - 11 months after her return, Rapunzel still has yet to pick an eligible suitor. Eugene works on the grounds, and is courting a nice, beautiful young woman with a nice family. How did this happen? Mutual unrequited pining. And yet, Eugene wants to make sure her prince will make her happy, and she chooses to save his new relationship. (2017) And You? - Mai has married Seto. Joey had thought he still had a chance with Mai, but not now. Mai misses Joey, but feels too ashamed over Paradisa to ever face him again. All the boys have all always been in tune to each other's interests in each other, but Seto finally comes to terms with emotionally identifying with Joey's old home problems when he learns about his past. Mai & Joey meet up for coffee; Seto calls Joey in for a private meeting. -k this is almost finished so no more spoilers, but the premise is how a triad could form. (2018) Prison is a Marriage - Eugene does marry Stalyan, who picks right back up where their abusive relationship ended 8 years prior...

...and I don't know how to write a genuinely jealous Rapunzel. I'm trying for envy & self-pity at least... .

Sure, both Joey & Eugene died to free their loves, wanting them to be happy even if it wasn't with them, but I really have been writing nonmonogamous poly-ish relationships all this time, haven't I?
