*on rocking chair* I remember Silentshipping being one of the biggest ships. I jumped on. Because I loved Kaiba. Thought he & Joey should be family. But felt them more like brothers, given my own connection with my brother & how they were our respective faves. My earliest hope, in Duelist Kingdom, before I had internet at all, was for Kaiba and Mai to get together, the 2 I related to the hardest. Joey and Mai looked like they would be the kind to fight too much for my liking. But damn did I always admire Joey's loyalty, humor, bravery, and tenacity after his failures. Slowly realized my absolute ultimate headcanon/ship for Kaiba, was "no one." "I dunno. I just can't see him being into that. With anyone." (Psst, we now call that "asexual.") Slowly realized that Joey and Mai don't fight too much, they fight exactly the right amount, but love so hard, and need each other. Still liked Kaiba with Serenity purely to get some semblance of progenitive family going, and make him family with Joey, who would then be with Mai. Therefore linking my fave 3. Nowadays, I have Ettushipping. Which is what I'd wanted all along.

What Mai probably would say about Kaiba, if she knew about his past. They had a similar childhood; orphaned at a young age, growing by themselves, loneliness, rich background... Except Mai actually adapted Yugi's life philosophy and could serve as a bridge for Kaiba to open up and heal.

Arrogantshipping is actually one of my fave ships! Me personally I love the idea of them as besties most of all, but I tooootally see the merit of them in a romantic relationship! They would probably be able to conquer the wold?? With their combined beauty, confidence, and duel skills? The world better watch out.

 And I like the idea, weather romantic or platonic, that Mai is one of the only people who would not feel out of place being showered with gifts and demonstrations of wealth from Seto. She knows that he’s not doing it to buy her companionship, and is she going to turn down those designer glasses she’s been wanting, or that new car? Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. 

Plus? They would be the prettiest couple in the world. Imagine. 

(The BEST though??? Mai/Seto/Atem poly relationship. The world would NOT be ready for their combined strength and that is the tea.)
