#polyglot goals

My (honest) reasons for studying whatever language I have taken up or plan to take up:

German: I really love the sound of the German language, and have wanted to live in Germany for a really long time. Also, it might have something to do with my hard crush on a certain blonde German guy in one bl visual novel. Maybe. I'm not going to deny it. I've made life decisions for even dumber reasons, so objectively speaking, why in the hell not.

English: because in this world, if you want to speak other languages, you have to be able to speak English. Anecdotal example: I have close to 30 different language learning apps on my phone and my tablet, and I can count on one hand which ones can teach me from languages other than English.

Chinese: I want to read Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's books in the original language, as well as one day visit China and their sights, and understand at least the basics of what is going on around me.

Japanese: watching anime in the original language and understanding what's going on would be fun. Also, I was quite the weaboo when I was a kid, so this is part of healing my inner child.

Arabic: because frankly, I have a feeling that if I get to some part of Europe where I don't speak the official language, with the help of Arabic I will inevitably be able to find someone who will understand me. And no, English won't help with that. I have a vague suspicion that the Arab guys won't look at me with cold contempt in their eyes and won't spit in my face “it's the 'name of the country', speak the national language!”, though I may be wrong. Just a hinch. But also, Arabic is so, so pretty...

Spanish & French: I'll put them in the same group because in their own way they have the same reason - I love the way they sound. And dread the day I try to speak them and sound like a broken record. But a broken record in love with language!~

Any advice for falling back in love with Spanish? Having a hard time getting back into learning. I'm just not as passionate as I used to be 😔

I’ve been trying to come up with a great first line for my first Tumblr post. Apparently I failed, but I’m reaaally glad I got that out of the way. Now, to business. The sidebar pretty much summarizes the reason I started this blog: I want to be a polyglot. Why? Because it’s great to learn languages people. It improves ones communication skills. And it opens up a bright new world to explore. And, uh, it improves the blood flow in the brain. And a number of other sophisticated reasons. Not.

1. It’s because there are a truckload of foreign films and shows on my To-Watch list. And I’m tired of trying to decrypt them visually. Or trying to decrypt bad subs. 

2. Add in a truckload of books too.

3. Also, songs would make more sense if I could understand the lyrics. I doubt it, but whatever.

4. And did I mention that there are a truckload of foreign films and shows on my To-Watch list??

There, my top reasons.

I haven’t been very successful learning on my own so I decided to make this blog to keep myself accountable. Having millions of people watching over your journey would definitely motivate you right? (What? *eyeroll* Yeah yeah, a person or two if I’m lucky.)

So...here goes nothing.
