Me: No, that's German.

My brain: Ah, I know, нога.

Me: No, that's not it. Try a word that sounds more Romance. Although I know it's not related to (Spanish) pierna.

My brain: I have it! Cama!

Me: No, that's Catalan (and Spanish for "bed”).

My brain: The only other word for “leg” that I know is 腿.

Me: Yeah, that's not it either.

It was jambe.

Bilingual? More like BYElingual.

One way in which learning German has affected my English is that I can no longer correctly spell “shock” on the first try because I always write “schock”.

I was eating eggs for dinner when ou suddenly popped into in my head. I went through every language I knew for: œuf, Ei, яйцо. Then it hit me—it’s Catalan!

I was taking the oral part of the Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française (DELF) B2, in which I had to explain what a BookTuber is. I said “in English,” but I said it in English instead of French. Then, I corrected myself and said it in German.

The examiner had to help me say, “en anglais”.
