Luke had convinced him to stay with him at the garage after Bobby and Reggie had gone home, because he was in the middle of a nuclear fight with his parents and he was already planning on spending the night. He’s kind of hoping to talk Alex into staying for that too so he doesn’t have to be alone, and he’s reassured by Alex’s lack of motivation.
