Mary was aware she would be totally open to sharing John, the second Sherlock had come into their life. She certanly wasn't a conventional woman and monogamy always seemed kind of superflous in a relationship. Just a mere social construct she was not very fond of. Why should John have to go trought the turmoil and the pain of chosing one of them when could just simply all coexist and find a little bit more happiness in their lifes? She is not really sure when he started loving Sherlock.... 1
To be honest she had probably started to feel that waya little bit, when she didn’t even know him, through John, trough what he toldher, but even more through what he didn’t tell her. Someone who elicited somuch adoration and love from his John was for sure worth it. Maybe she hadfallen completely in love during their wedding, with the unbeareably, surprisingly and heartbreakingly tender speech, his candor, the music writtenespecially for them, and so far from the cold calculating machine
image Sherlock had constructed for himself. When hekissed her on the forehead she could feel herself explode with fondness andaffection, just like moments before when John was hugging Sherlock after thespeech. She really didn’t know when it all has started. She was sure she was inlove, though, the day she wasn’t able to bring herself to kill him. For amoment she had tried hard to convince herself she could do that. But she simplycouldn’t. It was the first time in her life
It was the first time in her life this had happened. The first time she wasn’t able to kill a target. And this time there was somuch more at stake than usual: she was risking her life with John, somethingthat she held more dear than herself. Yet she couldn’t do it. The moments aftershe had shot Sherlock had been the most terrifying and miserable of her lifeand her life hadn’t been pretty up untill then. She wasn’t just scared aboutlosing John but because she had realized she was now
she was now in love with two people. She had one moreweak spot that the those who could come after her would be able to exploit. Those people would for sure not be interested in sparing Sherlock life. Quitethe opposite. This time she didn’t run away like she used do everytime she findherself involved with feelings for people, before meeting John. This time thisbeautiful, frail thing that has grown between the three of them is just toprecious to allow her to go away.
