When I watched it, to me it was more of the fact that Sadness was needed to let Riley grieve and have closure. I saw Joy as someone who thought she was the right answer for everything when she wasn’t–Riley needed to let go. Sadness is an emotion we all need to experience because we’re human, and without it (and Joy), Riley was frustrated, confused, disgusted with everything, like she was festering. I was annoyed with Sadness being, well, a kaleidoscope of mope.
I think that was what they were trying to go for, but they surprisingly screw this up completely. From the very beginning Sadness is shown to be nothing but a poisonous influence, ruining a balance everyone else was keeping. She does pointlessly stupid things like turning happy memories sad and ruining things, even screwing up the Core Memories. Any chance I had of finding her sympathetic was gone when she was going out of her way to walk away from the console to mess with things. It doesn’t help that she reminded me of people who have depression or some mental illness, do something horrible, and then run off whining about how awful they are to gain sympathy.
Someone mentioned it felt like they were trying to recycle Toy Story, and if they were trying to portray Joy as a control freak that makes sense. But I found Joy to be the most sympathetic character in the movie. It was made very clear in the movie that she kept things running. She obviously kept things in balance, shown several times when Fear, Disgust, and Anger went off the rails without her. And there are a lot of diverse colors for the memories so Joy obviously didn’t monopolize happiness over everything. I didn’t get the impression that Riley was festering until Anger, Fear, and Disgust were running it and trying to imitate Joy.
I think they were trying to show Sadness as being something positive, but she was nothing but depressing except for the scene with Bing Bong and the ending. She was unrelentingly depressing and just made everything worse, which made her being the voice of reason hard to believe when it was obvious that Joy was supposed to be wrong and Sadness was supposed to be right. But given that she was just a screw up I found it hard to sympathize with her. I legitimately thought Sadness was right when she said to leave her, because she hadn’t been helpful. When the movie ultimately tried to paint Sadness as the one who was right it felt cheap.
@neotenypikachu I’ll definitely check out Newegg. I’ll need to get a decent laptop first cause I have no space for a PC right now.
@poo2two I don’t need a cutting edge PC. I just need to it to run modern games at a passable level. I won’t be maxing out graphics.

MG on NES back in my day didn’t even have Metal Gear… Imagine my disappointment. My fav is still MGS on ps1.
That’s because the “Metal Gear” game on NES wasn’t a Metal Gear game. That was a crappy sequel to the original game called “Snake’s Revenge” and was so bad that Hideo Kojima made Metal Gear 2 just to wipe that game from existence.
MGS1 is really good, and really where it should just be considered the end considering how bad the games got after that chronologically. MGS3 remains my favorite.

Noice. I'm clumsy when it comes to stealth.
Stealth games are my forte. I love sneaking around and knocking everyone out.
