Constance Clootie/The Stone Witch wasn’t all that bad, had a pretty tragic storyline, and deserves a lot more sympathy.
Pre-curse, we don’t know much about her other than she had two (demon) children and was one of three wives to Sheriff Clootie.
All of her ‘bad deeds’ thus far were really either in effort to find the bones of her poor dismembered children and/or seek revenge on who she feels caused the death of said children. (Fun activity, take the adjective demon away from describing her children, and do you place as much blame on her?)
Additional points to support my argument:
She could’ve put Willa somewhere far worse than where she did when hiding her from Bobo (say, a well, perhaps).
Doc was a self described son-of-a-gun when she knew him AND she gave him an out, if only he could be humble enough to trust Bobo with the string thing. And, really, he kinda came out a better man from the well...
She was on the right side when entombing Bulshar and doing the whole three seals thing. If anything, she hid her seal the best. (The other two seemed pretty easy to find....)
Her main motivation for everything we’ve ever seen her do (minus her actions post-mortem) was only in effort to bring her children back. When she was resurrected to do his deeds, she welcomed death and caused no bodily harm to anyone.
And that concludes how I’ve spent my Sunday night. Pushing off more productive activities to analyze the tragic character arc of one Connie Clootie.
