Thinking about new game ++ (multiplayer)
Simon of course has no problem getting Lagann to start again, but Kamina runs into the same problem as last time with Gunzar and can't get it to work for him at first. It's only then when he realizes that reuniting with Simon has erased his will to fight. Deep down, he just wants to take Simon and run the exact opposite direction from Dai Gunzan and Teppelin. To hell with everyone else, to hell with liberating the surface! Keeping Simon alive is the only thing he cares about and he doesn't need to challenge the spiral king to do that.
But. What about Nia?
If he gives up now and runs to keep Simon safe, he's leaving Nia to her fate in that box. His little brother is back at his side, but his little sister still needs him. He grabs onto that thought, and the sheer satisfaction he felt punching Lordgenome in the face for both Simon and Nia, and wills Gunzar back into motion.

The previous night, Kamina had broken script and jumpped out of Lagann first when they encountered what he now knew to be his dad's bones. He still misses his dad, and regrets not being able to reuinite with him as well, but that pain is an old one now. He puts on a bit of a show for the Littner folks - as he and Simon have decided not to share their future knowledge - but it's far more subdued. He feels a bit better getting his cape back early though.

Later, Kamina gets to really impress Viral during their first meeting, as he actually knows how to use his sword this time. He's not just holding his own, he's winning, and is sorely tempted to use that advantage and subdue Viral now and drag him back to Littner and get a head start on befriending his feral cat buddy. He refrains (barely) because he doesn't want to disturb too much of the timeline before they reach Dai Gunzan, and because he's not sure Littner has the ability to hold Viral captive for any amount of time.
