No need to read the rest of this post, just skedaddle and we won't have a problem
For the rest of you, hello! Call me Cockatoo or Gray, they/them. You will find mostly my own gifs and my own writing here, though I'll reblog other GL content if I can find any.
GIF queue is three times a day, 3:30, 4:00, and 4:30pm US Eastern/GMT -4:00
Everything's cool to reblog, even my wips and brainstorming posts. If I don't want something reblogged it'll be tagged dont reblog or delete later. I also love collaborative writing so feel free to add ideas or thoughts of your own! Or send me asks about my aus, and I'll talk your ear off. (And please don't fear coming off anon, I don't bite!)
My writing will occasionally be 18+ and sometimes deal with heavy topics such as abuse and sexual assault, but I do my best to tag and flag everything and if I miss something just give me a gentle nudge and I'll be happy to fix it.
Edit: 18+ wips are now posted to @indigoteppelin stop by for kinky noncon shenanigans
Since tumblr hates custom themes now I guess I'll put the tag and AU list here as well
Cockatoo.txt - any random text post I make
Cockatoo.writing - wip excerpts and au spitballing! Promo posts for when I post something to AO3 are also under this tag

Modern au with teen delinquent Kamina who's been bounced around foster homes and in and out of juvie for years, and his latest foster parent has finally had enough and decides to send him to a boarding school that'll "straighten him out"
Kamina's not scared, he tells fellow delinquent Kittan, apparently all they do is match you up with a "little brother" to teach you responsibility or whatever, and like hell he's gonna let some stupid toddler cramp his style
Then he gets to the school and actually meets Simon
Cue "I've only had Simon for a day and a half but if anything happened to him I would kill everyone in this school and then myself"
And the ensuing panic of "I can't let Simon turn out like me, I gotta- I gotta set a good example! Fuck!"
"They seek out the light, even though the only thing awaiting them is death's darkness. It disgusts me. Pondering the nature of how humans really are."
"Spiral King, you are both the immortal creator of this world and the monarch ruling over all within it. I haven't the slightest intention of questioning or defying your decisions."
"Even if everyone else falls I will not take one step from this spot!"
Thinking about Yoko trying to make a final stand against Guame's forces right outside the medbay. Because like hell she's letting them get at Kamina without a fight.
(also thinking I might adjust the bit where Guame's forces take over the ship into more of a running battle rather than an instant surrender. Bc that's more fun.)
I still haven't figured out how exactly Kamina survives the ship take over. He's still deeply comatose so he's not saving himself. An emergency timed lock on the medbay feels a little too convenient but I might have to go with it. Or maybe the med team barricade themselves inside and keep Kamina safe even while everyone else gets dragged down to beauty village to be executed. And the med team are just deemed unimportant enough that they can be dealt with later instead of holding up the whole broadcasted execution of Team Dai Gurren just for them.
Good thing Kamina's survival has been kept a secret, bc if Guame knew exactly what the med team were protecting he'd be focusing a lot more on getting in there.
Okay I got distracted from Yoko in the second half, but she does make a valiant last stand and take out quite a few beastmen before they can subdue her
(I'm not saying she she looked like this in front of the medbay door, but I'm not saying she didn't look like this.
Guame gave strict orders to take everyone alive so as much as the foot soldiers want to kill her there and then for killing so many of their comrades, they keep her alive to face her execution with the rest of the humans. She is pretty roughed up, though, and has to be dragged down to beauty village and tossed in the cell with everyone else. Everyone else is horrified by how badly she's been beaten (though they shouldn't be surprised, she wasn't leaving that spot until she physically couldn't fight to stay anymore), but Simon's the first one to realize that if she's here that means she's not guarding Kamina anymore. Which gets everyone else even more panicked when he says as much out loud.
Simon watches in silence as everyone else freaks out and starts clawing at the walls to no effect, he watches Yoko breathe shallowly, openly wearing the proof and consequences of her devotion to Kamina. He was too busy grieving and being angry at everything to actually protect his own brother when Kamina needed him. He turns and stares down the rock wall keeping them all trapped. Right now, Kamina doesn't need Simon the Vengeful or Simon the Fighter, he needs Simon the Digger.

After nearly 24 straight hours of surgery, Kamina is at last not actively dying and gets moved into the main medbay for long term observation. There's still more the med team need to do to ensure he'll heal as best he can, but for now he's not bleeding out anymore and his still functioning lung is managing well enough with an oxygen mask.
Simon has to wait a second full day before anyone will let him in to see his bro. Everyone assures him it's so the med team can make absolutely certain Kamina's stable before anyone is allowed to see him, but the wait is agonizing. Simon paces outside the medbay until he's told to go somewhere else, and then he paces up and down the length of the ship. He can't sleep. He knows what he'll see and hear if he does. He already sees it every time he closes his eyes. Gurren's cockpit painted with blood. Kamina, stained red, slumped over, so still he already looked dead. Every time he stops pacing and the sound of his footsteps fade, the silence is filled with Kamina's screams.
Finally, finally, he's allowed into the medbay. He regrets it almost immediately. There's nothing comforting or reassuring about seeing Kamina covered in tubes and wires and bandages, nearly grey against the thin white sheets. He doesn't look any more alive than he did two days ago. There's only the slightest movement of his chest to show he's even breathing.
Simon clamps a hand over his mouth to muffle a sob. Kamina's not supposed to look like this. He's meant to stand tall and strong, as bright as the sun to warm everyone in his orbit. He can't be lying half dead in a medbay, kept alive by machines and held together by gauze and stitches.
Despite his horror, Simon inches closer. He can see Kamina's heartbeat on one of the monitors, but it's not enough. He won't be able to breathe until he can feel it for himself. At Kamina's bedside, he hesitates, fingers hovering inches from Kamina's. Will it only serve to make him feel worse when those fingers stay slack instead of curling around his own? He closes his hand around Kamina's anyway, and is relieved to find it warm with body heat and not cold with death as Simon keeps expecting. There is comfort in taking Kamina's hand in both of his, pressing his fingers against the underside of Kamina's wrist to feel his pulse, slow and weak but there. Simon tears come hard and hot as his legs fail him and he sinks to knees, not releasing his death grip on Kamina's hand.
He keens softly when the tears aren't enough to relieve the pressure in his soul. This is his fault. Kamina lies here teetering between life and death because of Simon and his stupid, immature jealousy. If he had kept it together, Kamina wouldn't have recklessly crossed the battlefield to set him straight. If he had smothered his insecurities for just a few hours, Kamina wouldn't have been anywhere near Dai Gunzan's deck when Byakou burst through it. If he had just talked to Kamina when he had the chance, told him why he was upset, they could have solved this before it became a problem.
This is Simon's fault.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Bro. Please come back. Please be okay. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
"Thymilph was one of the four generals. Must have gotten careless."
"Don't forget the old saying, even an armadillo will fight when cornered. Which is another way to say one must never underestimate one's foe."
"What nonsense. If some lowly armadillo did turn around and try to fight, all one need do is crush it."
"You do not understand some of the finer subtleties of this world, I see."
"You forget, we're in the presence of the Spiral King. Your Highness, I ask that the honor of retaking Dai Gunzan be given to me, Cytomander the Swift."
"This man lived a life filled with desire, loyalty, and extravagance. He loved his companions and he strove for freedom. And then, suddenly, he was gone.
But even so, Simon lives on. He must go on living."
