AFTER THE SUNSET (Brett Ratner, New Line, 2004)

I might be the only one but I really like AFTER THE SUNSET (Brett Ratner, New Line, 2004). It's entertaining and fun, a nice diversionary film. I'm not going to comment on the filmmaking as it is standard and formulaic. For me it is the cast which provides me with such a deep resonance and connection to the film. Pierce Brosnan is such a great actor and one of the smoothest ever to grace Hollywood. Playing master thief Max Burdett he channels the great Cary Grant effortlessly. Woody Harrelson plays Agent Lloyd as a perfect foil to Max; unkempt, crude and uncool. Finally Mrs. Hayek. Mention her amongst a group of guys and her work (read as her body) in DESPERADO or FROM DUSK TIL DAWN is brought up. I always bring up her role as Lola in this film. She has never looked better in my opinion. Absolutely stunning. Just a good popcorn film.
