A concept album revolving around the journey of William Cureleak, an ascetic who decides to leave his monastery after a sweet epiphany occurred before a fatal resolution. The album has been conceived as a "neo-wagnerian" experience where lyrics, music, sounds, videos and images combine to evoke a narrative pattern punctuated by the songs arranged like chapters of a futuristic gothic novel. When I started composing the music of “Son of chasm”, I was looking for an unusual way to recount a story by using sounds and lyrics. An alternative way to literature, cinema or poetry that would be able to contain and overcome them all, from an artistic point of view. The aim was to deliver an apparently simple and linear story about a man who, after secluding himself in a monastery, suddenly decides to embark on a last trip into the outside world, in order to find the creator of a cake he tasted in his cellar before attempting to end his life. At its core, it is a journey through the space and time of an inner self, as indicated by the continuous shift between different styles of music and singing. Religious chant meets gothic rock, dark ambient, prog and psyco chill out dubstep. So I tried to write the songs like emanations of the abstract musical patterns build by a bunch of tracks I had already recorded. The result might be defined a sort of evanescent pop-up book where the visuals and the narration are hinted by words floating above the atmospheric pads of each songs treated like chapters of a novel. It will be up to the listener to decipher the development of the story in his own personal way by linking together the sounds and the poetry. Schopenhauer stated that music could "exist even if there were no world at all”: in this regard “Son of chasm” is an invite to evoke a world so tangible and so impalpable that can exist only in each listener’s mind.
