there’s that thing people say. that ‘you look like you’ve seen a ghost.’ it’s something that he never thought he’d have to take literally.
he spotted her walking into the same apartment he’d been assigned to, her attention turned more to the groceries in her arms than anywhere else as she steps into the elevator.
akira’s feet take him to meet her before he can even think, running for the door before it slides shut. he puts his body halfway into the elevator, halting their closing and standing there, speechless. his eyes weren’t playing tricks on him; that was definitely her.
“miki-”
he wanted to say something impressive or charming. he wanted to smile and kid around like they had used to. but it’s all he can do to stand there dumbfounded, holding the elevator door open, so relieved to see her alive and whole again.
“i’m so sorry.”
