OPEN.
The rebels had begun their attack on the Capitol, and though Portia was one of them, she was disguising herself among the Capitol refugees for a different purpose. Her daughter, Lex, was being evacuated to Snow’s mansion and she had to get to her. She knew that Snow wouldn’t take a rebel’s daughter in.
As the children were removed from their parents by peacekeepers, Portia’s spotted Lex’s guardian, Maria, handing her three year old over. Lex spotted her and cried as she was carried through the crowd. “Mama!”
“LEX!” Portia screamed among the chaos.
“The children will be received first. The gates will open momentarily.”
“LEX!” Portia screamed but she felt a peacekeeper grab her, but then the hovercraft appeared.
“It’s the Capitol!”
“Gifts!”
The children stopped crying, excited about the prospect of gifts...but then the bombs went off. Portia was thrown backwards and she opened her eyes to a haze of people running to the wounded...she cried out in agony when she saw a peacekeeper lifting her lifeless daughter from the ground.
Then the second bomb went off.
All she remembered after that was waking up in the hospital, feeling someone’s hand grasp hers.
