of course he knows how long it's been. he's been making coffee for the others in the process but, no matter what, his gaze drifts back to this person — she's making her rounds from table to table, eating the sugar until the containers are empty for the better part of an hour. he doesn't actually care much for sugar. prefers coffee without it, without anything added to it, the way he'd grown used to. he way he'd grown to love.
it may actually make it easier for him to serve coffee the way he prefers it. although more sugar is stocked in the back, he knows he'd hear no ends of it from the captain if he ran out of absolutely all of it. even if it's his coffee shop.
there's a lull in other patrons, so he uses this time to approach her. "Are you here just for the sugar?" she seemed to be, but he couldn't ascertain what others wanted to do. predict, maybe. guess, of course. "We have coffee, too."
