Recently, I have been receiving chocolates from my tenants. They told me is a small gift of appreciation. Of course, my company practices No Gift Policy, but they told me “Is Just A Chocolate” =P

So I accepted the chocolate and I seriously appreciate that they remember me even when they are travelling. So lovely. The feeling of being appreciated is great.

I have made 3 big decisions about Facebook in the past year and 2 of them work! Guess which ones! 1. Try to post positive stories 2. Unfollow people I don't know in the 'real world 3. Engage politely with people who disagree with me I'm trying to post positive stuff! Because even negative / sad / frustrating stories have positive aspects. It only needs a different perspective. My personal guide is 'what am I trying to achieve by sharing this post?' And often there are people doing something positive about a terrible thing. That's what I'm sharing. If there is cruel language or vitriol in a post - however laudable the underlying message - I'm not sharing it. If I truly want to effect change, will those who disagree with me be persuaded by insults? What about pain and suffering? I made the conscious decision not to share. I believe that I'm aware of news from my own trusted sources and don't believe Facebook is one of them. I'm not turning away. But I'm choosing not to share horror unless it is combined with a positive - something which can be done, some point to my seeing it. I believe there is a human inertia towards images of death and gore which gives an inexplicable thrill. (Slowing down at car crashes to see victims) I've done it. I experience it. I don't want to be part of it on Facebook. Unfollowing people I don't know made my Facebook wall boring! I miss the window on the wider world it gave me! I'm re-following and it feels good! Being agreed with can get boring! So I am trying to engage with those who I don't agree with. Not so much that it drains me... but a little bit every day. It's easy to feel affirmed and empowered when agreeing with those who you know share your underlying political views... or arguing over the finer details... point-scoring on semantics. What about engaging with someone who has a totally different belief system - who might never agree with you? Well... I'm trying. And failing mostly to change minds. But turning away from our enemies... not seeing our shared humanity... that's what's started most wars... and what's ended them? Sitting around a table, trying to hear them and making concessions when possible. Often after many lives have been lost. Being an artist I have to admit I've 'used' Facebook to further my own ends... to promote recordings and gigs and generally 'big myself up'. And because I've been learning how to do it as I go along I find myself with a ton of friends who I don't know. But they give me a lot of fun! A lot of stories! All those faces! I'm learning about how I want to conduct myself now that my private world's gone public.
