The Former President Ferdinand Marcos, for one, had a number of contributions to the Philippine, which, based on the criticisms of the people, are not duly given appreciation.
On December 30, 1965, in his 1st Inaugural address, he promised to make the nation great again. He stood by his promise by striving to find ways and having concrete actions and not just giving swaying loquacious speeches. Trying to improve the financial situation of the country, he imposed a strict tax collection that started during his first term. To be able to carry out extensive infrastructure schemes, he sought the support of “international financing institutions”.
In addition, he also did acts to fortify the foreign affairs of the country. He headed the development of the Philippine economy by opening commerce or exchange. Adding to the usual goods exported, textile products also became part of the Philippine exports.
Light Rail Transportation, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Philippine Heart Center, and Coconut Palace are also some of the achievements that former President Marcos have done for the Philippines that is of great significance for most Filipinos nowadays. Although those “most Filipinos” believe that Marcos used Martial Law for the sake of power. Based from his inauguration speech, it is stated there how Marcos based his plans on the reformation of our country. His plans concerning the betterment of the society became more eminent when he implemented Martial Law. Reyes (2009) believes that, Marcos implemented Martial Law because of the continuous attacks from the anti-Marcos.
