One Dress a Day Challenge
June: Brown Redux
Possession / Jennifer Ehle as Christabel LaMotte
Christabel wears this Renaissance-style gown when posing for a Pre-Raphaelite painting. I'm not sure I can put my finger on exactly how, but Jenny Beavan (the designer) has done a great job of making it look subtly costumey. Maybe it's as simple as the un-period (but very Pre-Raphaelite) hair. Having a colored and patterned under-layer poking out through the slashes in the sleeves, rather than white linen, is another factor--I don't recall seeing that on any period sources.
After the last time I posted a costume from this movie, I decided to finally get around to reading the book, which I had been toying with for several years. I really enjoyed it, so that's a good thing this blog has gotten me!
ETA: Turns out this dress is a rewear from Ever After! So that explains the not-quite-historical look. Both films were designed by Jenny Beavan.
