🫖 = I’m going to say the Suez Crisis and Anthony Eden’s term as Prime Minister overall.

🥀 = Its specific but any piece that portrays Charles de Gaulle as cowardly or makes him worse than he was. It ignores the valid reasons he had to escape to England and it’s insulting to all that he went through personally.

🧭 = I’m learning about Irish history more, and I’d say the death of Michael Collins. It created a big “what if” scenario and turned him into a martyr, and I believe a lot of people view him as a romanticized figure rather than who he was objectively. Maybe if he lived he would’ve been better, but he could’ve also turned out similar to Dev and be villainized like him.

🎻 = Going back to de Gaulle, it’s his love for his daughter Anne. She was one of the main things that kept him grounded during that time and encouraged him to fight on. Even in today’s day and age it’s still remarkable to see a parent do everything they can to love their special needs children, but it was especially so in the 30s.
