Dearest reader, it seems our little wallflower of the season not only captured the duke's eyes but has now been seen with a certain Councilwoman, is this all a ruse to climb her way up the social ladder? Or is our little wallflower going to stay a wallflower?
You’ve been ruined, your name ruined, and your body now touched by a man you’re not even married to, what are you going to do? Confess? Live your life as a scandalous spinster and live off in the woods like a witch?! You can’t get his face out of your head, you can’t keep replacing his fingers with yours to chase that high, you crave his body, his slender skilful fingers, you crave his voice, you crave all of him. You feel like you’re going off the rail, if you keep acting like this you’re sure your mama or papa will send you away to knock some sense into you. Every hour of every day you crave him, it’s… maddening. You don’t even know his favourite colour, his favourite food, you don’t know what he likes to do for fun, does he go hunting? Go to the club? Races? Does he even ride? You’re so caught up in your thoughts you barely register anything, your lady maid dressing you, getting in the carriage, arriving at the ball, one minute you were being corseted the next you’re amongst people. You feel sick, physically, you can’t keep doing this, feeling like your whole world is a lie and he’s the only truth you can find. You can’t think properly! Everything is so muddled! Out of place, it’s all -
There’s a hand on your shoulder, slender, cold from the night air and you sigh closing your eyes, mouth parting slightly as the world fades out.
“Dance with me” it’s softly asked, only for your ears and you nod feeling his hand slide down your arm to take your hand before leading you to the dance floor. You don’t know yourself, not anymore, this world is a big game and you’re just an insignificant piece of nothing.
“Look at me” his voice is like a distant echo, and so is everyone else but he’s closer, so close… you look up at him, those golden honey-brown eyes you could lose yourself in if you’re not careful. His arm around you is a steady weight, his slender hand now warming up with your body and the dancing. You spin around with the other ladies before being pulled back into him and you sigh your eyes looking at his tie instead. He’s so close, his breath fanning your head and hair, his body heat mingling with yours, far too close for an innocent dance. Are you even innocent anymore? Mind corrupted by, him… you wanted it, you wanted it so bad for him to corrupt you, to change your way of thinking but he just left you, abandoned you while your brain was fuzzed and not thereafter he laid his hands on you. Anger rises in your chest and you frown suddenly, he left you, and ran off like he knew he committed such a scandalous act, but he still did it. Your movements become stiff and when the dance ends you don’t bow, you turn away and you walk out. You leave to get fresh air and not slap a gentleman in public.
He’s hurt you. He sees it, sees the corruption swirl in your eyes, sees the panic and tenseness of your body as you barely notice anyone around you. He shouldn’t touch you but he needs to, his hand resting on your warm shoulder, the way you sigh and close your eyes, he watches your mouth part slightly and he has the urge to grab your face and correct it because that face is only for him. He’s not subtle, not with you, he doesn’t care, let the city talk he’s had enough of being alone, he needs you, he needs to hear your voice, feel your body against his. He watches when you get angry, the frown on your face when you realise he’s hurt you, the way you stiffen ready to strike him. He won’t blame you, he wants you to hit him, snap at him, cause as scene as long as he gets to hear your voice and feel your wrath. You leave though, sensible always the sensible young lady, and he the duke looking to corrupt her. He follows you sees your chest heave, watches your breasts press against the fabric of your dress hungrily, even in your anger you are a goddess, flushed face tense set jaw narrowed eyes, he’ll gladly kneel in front of you and hand you a knife if it’ll make you happy. You face him, he can picture the fire flaring in your eyes. You snap at him, quiet hushed words but he doesn’t listen, he manages to get something like defiled, abandoned and marriage, that word makes him frown, why would you say that word? He focuses, his ears finally working but it’s too late your hand is meeting his face in a harsh sound and he lets out a low groan. He holds his cheek, you’ve got strength more than he realised. His eyes flicker to yours he’s not holding back his emotions. He watches you jolt, take in a breath and blink a few times. He knows you don’t understand quite fully but he’s hungry, he’s hungry for you, he desires nothing but you, his breeches are confining and this place is too open.
“Say something!” You whisper hiss, but he doesn’t, he just stares at you, licks his lips and lowers his hand from his now-red cheek. He stalks closer, his limp somehow making him more menacing. His fingers brush against your cheek and you frown and stutter before his lips are on yours. Your eyes are wide and you're pushing him back but he won’t relent, he kisses you passionately, his hands cupping your neck his thumb under your chin forcing your head back slightly. You let out a gasp when he does and his tongue slips past your lips and tangles with yours. You panic, you’re too out in the open, you bite his tongue and he hisses pulling back. He swallows his eyes narrowing and you taste his blood on your teeth. He pants his hands tightening around your neck as he leans his forehead against yours. You make a small sound like a whimper of emotion and he hushes you gently his arms wrapping around you, one hand cradling your head and the other around your shoulders. You struggle initially before you feel yourself cry, your arms wrap around him, and you feel the brace against his lean frame and grip his jacket. He holds you tightly his chin resting on your head he sighs and makes an annoyed noise making you hold onto him tighter. You pull apart when you hear voices and let out a gasp.
“Go” you whisper and he looks pained but goes off. You pretend to fan yourself as a few people leave the party giving you a friendly wave. You breathe in relief and sneak back into the party your mind reeling once again.

Dearest reader, it seems our lovely duke has finally taken to the dance floor. If you missed last night's grand Solar eclipse then let me tell you what a grand soirée it was indeed. Our men of progress dressed as dark as moons and two golden Suns dancing with them. Our duke danced the Solar eclipse with a most interesting suitor indeed. Oh, and how wonderfully they danced indeed.
Having lunch with the esteemed Mel Medarda was more nerve-wracking than you anticipated. The Councilwoman was indeed discreet with her collection a simple carriage one unmarked without the Talis emblem your mama ever the nosy person society she of was Instantly demanded why you were suddenly going out sure enough your papa managed to distract her for five minutes so you could escape with your lady maid.
Arriving at the Talis house once again in the middle of the day was even more grand than arriving at night. Everything was as gold and bright as the sun, though with a lot fewer people now you can enjoy it more without the nerves of a hundred people buzzing around. Councilwoman Medarda greets you in her dining room, she wears a white and gold dress more formal and daily wear than her extravagant ball gown.
“Councilwoman” you bow your head as your lady maid waits over with the other servants. Mel smiles at you.
“Sit, please” she says and you sit across from her looking at the array of food.
“Tea?” She asks and you nod politely wondering if her tea is as extravagant as the rest of everything Medarda/Talis.
“I hear the town is abuzz with gossip at your dance with the duke” she says smiling and you almost choke on your tea as you take a sip of it.
“I- is it?” You say deciding to place your cup of tea down then make a mess.
“It is, I was at the modiste, the madame there had a lot to say indeed” she grins.
“Oh” you say not sure how what to say in such a situation.
“I doubt you want to talk about gossip you seem like a smart young woman to me” she says as the servants come over and serve you food.
“Thank you,” you say to the servant who nods before they leave.
“You must have questions” she says and you frown.
“About?” You ask.
“Why the Duke of course” She laughs softly and you hesitate with your food feeling even more nervous.
“I don’t mean to make you uncomfortable,” she says suddenly.
“You don’t go out often? With other young ladies of the city?” She asks and you shake your head.
“I see” she whispers frowning in thought.
“Well, we must change that,” she says.
Councilwoman Mel Medarda indeed makes good on her word. You travel to the markets together, a few famous cafes and bakeries, you even walk the gardens from time to time when she is free, in fact, you’ve been to the council palace now. You appreciate her gestures and feel more confident around her, she’s a smart ambitious woman any young lady would look up to, but being one-on-one with her makes you see her in a new light. It’s a Friday around mid-morning when a servant walks into the drawing room announcing you have a visitor. You half expect Mel what you don’t expect is to see the duke walk in, Cane in one hand and flowers in another.
“My duke how lovely to see you” Your mama instantly tries to butter her. The duke waves a hand slightly and a servant comes forward with a basket of flowers.
“For you Lady Y/l/n” he says she gasps a little over the top and takes them.
“My duke such a lovely gift” she smiles.
“And these are for you” he walks forward with a smaller bouquet in his hand and hands it to you. You stare at the flowers then back at him then at the flowers before your mother subtly jostles your side.
“Thank you my duke they are wonderful” you nod handing them to a ladymaid to place them in a vase.
“Well come in sit, I’m afraid we weren’t expecting visitors our have the servants bring out some tea” your mama says. The duke nods and moves slowly to sit down on one of the couches. Your mama nudges you ungraciously and you sigh sitting down by the duke at a respectful distance. Your mother sits at the other end of the room resuming her cross stitching. You look at your hands in your lap a bit awkwardly wondering what young ladies even say when a gentleman calls on them.
“How was your lunch with the “You slap a hand over his mouth and he raises an eyebrow, he glances at your mama and then smiles behind your hand nodding. You sigh in relief and lower your hand nodding as well. He keeps his smirk on his face for a moment.
“How has your week been my lady?” He asks instead and you nod.
“Good, yes I-“ you trail off wondering how you can talk without giving away your visits with the councilwoman.
“I’ve been to the gardens, ah the art gallery too that was exciting” you say trying to sound as natural as you can.
“Ah yes, the art gallery is quite exquisite, any favourite pieces?” He asks following along with your subtleness.
You manage to talk easily with him, though within reason, you’re not sure how long a caller is supposed to stay but it feels like hours by the time your father comes down from his office and sees the duke before whisking him away with whatever gentlemen talk about.
Viktor knew exactly where you had been and when you had been. Tuesday you attended the Medarda lunch, you left at exactly 12:15pm arrived at 12:25pm and left at 1:45pm. You went to the South Pond Gardens at 11:15am in the morning, took the reserved part of the gardens with your lady maid and then left at 11:45am. You attended the Killian gallery at 2:00pm and looked at the famous works of Kain Killian himself as well as a few from John Partridge, and Philip Suns. You left the gallery at 3:35pm and arrived home at 3:43pm. He knows you’ve been to the Stewards bakery, the Brisks cafe and he knows when you attended the council palace. He also knows you’ve had two gentlemen arrive at your doorstep who were promptly removed from the premises before anyone could bat an eyelid and he’s had those men who your mama paid discreetly dealt with. He knows your mother's favourite flowers, bakery items, and preferred cross-stitch technique, he also knows when your father is busy in his office, which gentlemen’s club he goes to, he also knows your father isn’t as nice as he appears having gone to the Black Roses brothel in the middle of the night. What he won’t allow himself to know is your favourite things, he wants you to tell him yourself, he wants you to want to open up to him, and let him carry whatever burdens a young lady like yourself might have, he wants you in his estate and he wants to have you on every service in his estate no matter what servants of his is watching. He wants to know every gasp, moan and cry you make, how many fingers you can take before you try to push him away, and how many orgasms he can get out of you before you collapse, he wants you to himself, to belong to him and nobody else.

Dearest reader, with the city abuzz with the newest ladies heading into this year’s social season, I’d like to comment on some gracious progress from our beloved men of progress. Two men from very different lives now living in the grandest building in our lovely city, the council palace, I do wonder though if this is indeed the year a particular man of science finally permits eager mamas and eager young ladies a chance to bask in his presence? or will our lovely city simply see him as different as always and therefore make his indifference scowl on his face as always? We shall see indeed.
You’re starting to think that there may be something wrong with you. Every polite conversation you try to have with any of the suitable gentlemen ends up with them running off with a lame excuse. Your dance card remains empty and your heart slowly plummets to your stomach. By your next soirée, you don’t bother, you stand along the wall where you belong by yourself. You’re starting to realise that you’ll end up a spinster at this rate, whatever little hope you had of indeed finding a suitable gentleman as a husband is currently out the window and at the bottom of Piltover River.
Viktor is no stranger to the games of gentlemen, the way their eyes rake over a lady with such fever is disgusting, watching their hungry eyes only in the marriage mart for two things the dowry and a quick fuck to ensure heirs. You’re too good for any of the beasts that lurk in such places, you’re an easy target, innocent and lacking in confidence. He’s seen a few gentlemen approach you, he’s also seen the snickers of said gentlemen’s friends from the other side of the room thinking that approaching you is a dare and something to be funny. A few of them now have bruised eyes and busted lips, not from his hands of course. His partner though is seemingly getting on his nerves though the councilman means well he’s too insightful for his own good and has caught his act of paying someone for a beating, not his finest moment nor was the councilman’s relentless insisting that came afterwards till he snapped and hit the poor man with his cane during his explanation. Of course, Jayce took it instead, laughing at the end of it despite the bruise that would no doubt form on his leg from Viktor’s cane. They had sat in his office drinking some whiskey in silent thought before he blurted out his feelings.
“I want to dance with her” something he’s never said ever, with the countless gatherings, balls and soirées he’s been to he’s never wanted to dance.
“Really?” Jayce hadn’t laughed at him or pointed at, physically that may be impossible, his best friend simply looked at him with this smile before disappearing which was unnerving, to say the least till the man came back with a strange contraption, covered in soot and smelling of his forge.
“A brace” he says like it is obvious and Viktor frowns.
“Come on Vik, you’ve never been interested in anyone before” Jayce chuckled lying the contraption on one of his clear workbenches.
“Doesn’t mean you have to go out of your way and-“ he gestured vaguely to the brace.
“Viktor, I want to see you happy, like me and Mel,” he says and Viktor sighs. Jayce was always the more emotional one within their dynamic, basking in his marriage to the councilwoman Mel Medarda, they’re really a stunning couple, the city talked of them for months even after their marriage, and he was happy for his best friend truly, but watching the happy couple day in and day out was exhausting.
“I don’t know how to dance Jayce” Viktor admitted quietly, sure his father was ruthless in his methods he never could master dancing with his leg and back.
“I’ll teach you” Jayce grins like it’s the most natural thing for a gentleman to teach another gentleman how to dance.
“You can’t be serious” Viktor says raising an eyebrow.
“Sure I am and if you’re not comfortable with me Mel can come” Viktor sometimes swears Jayce is in his own little realm, blissfully unaware of the standards of society.
“Jayce I’m not going to practice dancing with you let alone your wife” he scoffs finishing his glass of whiskey. Jayce gets this look when he gets upset and knows that it makes Viktor’s facade crumble which is exactly what he’s doing now. Viktor glares at him but it only fuels Jayces face.
“For god's sake fine stop it” he slams his empty glass down and Jayce grins.
Viktor regrets agreeing, dancing with someone with this strange brace Jayce made is proving more difficult than he’d like it to be, and even worse Jayce has brought his wife.
“Are you quite certain you had to bring your wife?” Viktor grits his teeth as Jayce leads him through a dance.
“I can hear you both” Mel grins from her seat on one of the lavish couches eating some biscuits and tea.
“I wouldn’t expect less councilwoman” Viktor replies before she stands up and stops them both.
“As fun as it watching you both you’re as stiff as rocks” she laughs warmly moving Jayce out of the way and taking his spot. It makes Viktor tense his hand shakily lying against her waist and shoulder.
“Lady Medarda” he mutters.
“Lady Talis” she corrects grinning and he sighs with a roll of his eyes. Jayce doesn’t seem at all bothered sitting down and watching with a smile as his wife guides him through a dance. He’s still stiff in his movements but he admits it’s easier to dance with her than her husband. She has strength and grace a deadly combination hence her position as a councilwoman, but dancing is an entirely different thing, he starting to see why people do it so often, even if his movements are uncoordinated.
“You do surprisingly well for someone who can’t dance my duke” she grins and he knows damn well she’s teasing by the look in her eye.
“Very funny Lady Med- Lady Talis” he corrects himself and she laughs.
“How does the brace feel?” Jayce asks grinning as well.
“Fine” Viktor replies his pride suffering immensely, if anyone were to walk in he was sure such a thing would cause a scandal or horrid rumours amongst the wealthy members of society.
You stand along the wall, it seems a waste for such a beautiful gown to be used on someone like you. All the other ladies have now made matches and dancing elegantly on the dance floor. You try not to let it hurt, you do, but the eve creeping thoughts of never finding a husband creep in, your mother scolding you day in and day out before going to these parties.
“Is your dance card still empty?” Your mother hisses softly snatching your dance card up. You flinch at her roughness she’s not one for a public scene.
“Mama please-“ you beg silently.
“This is ridiculous i will not have my only daughter end up a spinster I’m going to find someone for you to dance with even if I have to pay them” she practically growls and it makes your heart clench. Paying someone to dance with their daughter?
“My lady” You glance to your left noticing the duke and tense a bit.
“My duke” you nod your head in respect hiding your dance card with your hand on your wrist.
“I suppose you heard all that?” You sigh a bit.
“I did” he says softly and steps closer you feel emotion bubbling up and force yourself to look away and blink the tears from your eyes.
“You don’t want to be seen with me my duke,” you say side-stepping ever slightly.
“Why not?” He frowns.
“Because I’m the laugh of this city” you scoff not even bothering to hide your tone.
“We’ve only had four balls this season,” he says.
“And I’ve danced at none of them, I’ve had no callers or a simple conversation” you snap before sighing.
“Apologies my duke, I- I need some fresh air” You quickly retreat out into the garden knowing it’s highly inappropriate for a young lady like yourself to go anywhere but what’s one more flaw in your cracked appearance? You sit down and wipe your eyes with shaking hands staring at your empty dance card in disdain, you rip it off and throw it onto the grass. You almost jump when you hear someone approaching and quickly try to blend in with your surroundings, which is impossible given your light blue dress and the dark atmosphere of the garden. You see the duke and sigh a bit before realising he’s in fact walking over to you. You tense suddenly acutely aware of the situation.
“Can I sit?” He nods his head to the space beside you on the bench.
“My duke-“Before you can protest he sits down resting his cane to the side while you sit like a tense statue. You sit in uncomfortable silence despite the duke's seemingly relaxed posture.
“I would like to dance with you. Next ball” he says and you frown staring at him confused. You glance at his cane briefly not wanting to assume anything but the obvious is there. He smiles when he catches your look.
“My friend, Councilman Jayce Talis has invented a device, a brace to assist me without my cane,” he says and you blink, you knew the councilman was well endorsed you didn’t realise he was that well endorsed.
“So, next ball, will you honour me with a dance?” he asks leaning down and picking up your discarded dance card and small pencil. You don’t want to speak in case you make a fool of yourself so you nod and he smiles writing his name down on your card and handing it to you before standing up and leaving you alone in the garden with a racing heart.
